EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Koch-Glitsch Canada LP is a global leader in the design and manufacture of mass transfer, mist
elimination, and liquid-liquid coalescing equipment for the refining, chemical, petrochemical,
and gas processing industries. Koch-Glitsch operates a manufacturing facility at 18 Dallas Street
in Uxbridge. Steel plate, tubes, and coils are cut, stamped, pressed, welded and assembled. The
facility manufactures both parts for new assemblies, and new parts for refurbishment and
replacement. In compliance with the Toxics Reduction Act and Ontario Regulation 455/09, this
Toxics Substance Reduction Plan has been prepared to identify and evaluate opportunities to
reduce the facility’s use of chromium contained in steel raw materials. At this time, no new
opportunities have been identified. The company has dedicated significant resources and
personnel to review its processes on an ongoing basis in order to identify sources of scrap metals
and causes of non-conforming product, and correct these as needed. The facility must meet
corporate scrap generation targets, and processes that do not meet these targets are required to be
reengineered. Koch-Glitsch is committed to producing a high-quality product in an
environmentally responsible manner, and will review new technologies and equipment options
that could result in a more efficient manufacturing process as they become available.
technically or economically feasible to reduce. We will continue to use this substance in strict
accordance with all applicable environmental regulations.
With reference to the Ontario Toxics Reduction Act, the reduction objectives are outlined in
Section 4.0 of this Plan Summary for the reportable substance chromium at Koch-Glitsch Canada
LP.
3.0 SUBSTANCES REQUIRING PLANS
The following substance requires a plan – chromium, manganese, nickel – based on 2011 Toxics
Reduction Act accounting information.
4.0 OBJECTIVES OF THE PLAN & ANY TARGETS
Koch-Glitsch Canada LP prides itself on technological innovation in order to produce high
quality products in an environmentally responsible manner. We will strive to optimize the use of
chromium at the facility. No options have been identified, and as part of the continuous
improvement practices at the facility, technical advances will be monitored for new opportunities
to reduce the use of chromium in the future.
5.0 PROCESS DESCRIPTION
Chromium is contained in steel alloys used to manufacture of mass transfer, mist elimination,
and liquid-liquid coalescing equipment. Options to be implemented (or statement that none are to
be implemented)
6.0 OPTIONS TO BE IMPLEMENTED
At this time, no new options can be implemented at the facility. Koch-Glitsch will continue to
monitor the cost of installing a laser cutter as a means of scrap reduction and, if it becomes
economically feasible, will revisit this option in future Plans. Koch-Glitsch remains committed to
producing high quality products in an environmentally responsible manner.
