NOTICE to all parents! PTSA Student directories have been disbursed to the students. If you ordered a student directory and have not received it, if you have any corrections and/or if you would like to purchase one, please contact Helaine, at shjmlopes@cox.net. Also, please note that the phone numbers on the cover are incorrect. Please use the numbers on the first page (310‐378‐8471) to contact PVHS. Did you know …. Fortunately, our school has never experienced a "lock down" situation. But in the event of violence on campus that required our administration to secure the school, do you know what the School District's policies are regarding communicating to parents what is taking place Our District's first priority is to ensure the safety of our students. To that end, the first contact with parents may be brief so that the administration and faculty can focus on getting our students into secure locations. As parents, we will all be concerned about our children; however please refrain from trying to contact the school during a lockdown. As time and the situation permits, more information will be provided to parents. Each teacher has detailed instructions on the steps to follow in case of a lockdown and is well prepared to keep our students out of harm's way. We all hope that our school never experiences a "lock down", but it is reassuring to know that our administration has a plan to keep our students as safe as possible and to communicate with parents what is occurring on campus as soon as circumstances allow. 2011 Fall PTSA Gifting Committee Proposes Gifts Large and Small to Benefit PVHS Students The PTSA Gifting Committee met on November 10 th to review staff requests for departmental gifts of supplies, books, materials and equipment to benefit students. The Gifting Committee is recommending that the PTSA membership approve approximately $65,000 in gifts at its November 22nd meeting. These gifts are possible due to the tremendous generosity of PVHS PTSA families at this year’s registration. We continue to emphasize gifting for all students, at all levels in all departments, and without these generous funds many of our classrooms would look very different. Here is just a small sample of the kinds of items the Committee is proposing the PTSA approve at its November meeting – Elmos with Projector for our Special Ed Students Challenge Day Deposit Math & English STAR prep materials Elmo Doc Camera for Math Sea King Arts Festival Piano Bench Large-scale Force Sensors Doppler Rocket Chromosome Simulation BioKit AVID books and support materials Open House materials Landscaping at the school entrance 100 Jumbo Fetal Pigs, Sheep Hearts & Brain Link Crew training EHAP Materials and DVDs for Social Studies Pens, Paper & staplers DVDs for the French Department 2 Document Cameras for the Spanish Dept ADAPT support And so much more… Thanks to those committee members who attended our November 10 th meeting and to the Department Chair people who worked with us to determine priorities. Members include –Tina Quinn, Sue St. Denis, Lisa Tellenbach, Sherry Cicchetti, Sarah Stromme, Kelly Ely, Irene Alvarado, Julie Robinson, Kathy Compton, Jill Shoemaker and Nick Stephany.
