For miners, the equipment they utilize is of tremendous value and
is intrinsically the backbone of their operations. Since 1992, EC
Mining Limited has been working with miners to create the best
possible solutions for them through distributing state-of-the-art
mining equipment and providing related services.
The company’s proximity to the copper belt is valuable to its success.
“Now we are 90 kilometres from all the mines in the copper belt. We do
things liked site installation, commissioning, repairs and we carry stock of
various equipment,” says Andrew Kansamba, Sales Director of EC Mining.
EC Mining is under a larger umbrella—EC Group which also consists
of Sulphuric Acid Solutions, EC Higher and EC Grifo Zambi Limited. The
group is based in Kitwe Zambia and works with a number of mining clients
including Mopani Copper Mines, NFC Chambeshi, Chambeshi Metals,
Kansanshi Copper Mines, and CNMC Launshya Copper Mine.

“Initially, the company was set up as EC mining
and over the years we got involved in so many
activities so we decided to split the company with
specific activities under specific companies,”
Kansamba says. “We formed EC Higher in which
we hire out equipment like mobile cranes. We’ve
also formed Sulphuric Acid Solutions and this
business is specifically in the acid industry and
EC Grifo Zambi Limited which is joint venture
company between EC Mining and Grifo Engineering
in South Africa.”
EC Mining has experience in commercial,
procurement and technical areas. The company
states on its website that this “has been to the
benefit of its customers and principals alike. Arising
from this, our challenge is to expand our operations
both regionally and throughout the rest of
the Africa, to supply quality products and services
to a fast developing and expanding market.”

on new products and working with customers
to make sure all of their needs are met with the

Ore division
EC Mining has an Ore division that supplies
malachite and cobalt to many big-name mines. It
primarily supplies to mines in the Copperbelt region
but are available to other regional markets.
The company states on its website, “Major
customers in the area include Chambeshi Mines,
Sable Zinc and Bwana Mukubwa. Our customer
list is growing rapidly, largely as a result of the
very attractive pricing structure we offer. On the
supply side, we are supported by a large network
of reliable suppliers, providing ore at very competitive
rates.”
The division is headed up by the Marketing
and Minerals Director, Iain Anderson-Slight and
supported by a young and innovative team of
individuals. Technical Director Jamie Anderson-
Slight brings years of experience to the table as
a member of The Gemmological Association and
the Gem Testing Laboratory of Great Britain.
Sulphuric Acid Solutions
EC Mining is a mainstay in the mining arena and
with its industry experience, EC Group has created
a sister company, Sulphuric Acid Solutions
(SAS), which provides sulphuric acid manufacturing
solutions. “We have got a specialized team of
metallurgical engineers, process operators and
mechanical technicians to carry out commissioning
of new acid plants. We run the acid plant for a
year or two while training the customers and then

a few state-of-the-art plants for sulphuric acid.
These are located in Mopani Copper Mines plc. in
Mufilara and Kitwe.
Kitwe is an ideal location in Zambia for SAS
and EC Mining as it is easily accessible to major
mining towns on the Copperbelt. SAS works
internationally and “specialises in the provision
of high quality equipment and technical installation
services to the southern African mining
region covering Zambia and the Democratic Republic
of Congo,” states the company’s website.
SAS and EC Mining work together as sole
distributors in the Democratic Republic of
Congo and Zambia for: Chas. S Lewis who are
manufacturers of sulphuric products like pumps
and valves, Mecs Europe/Africa BVBA which is
a supplier of sulphuric acid technology, heat
exchangers, vanadium catalyst for acid plants
and more. They also work with Alf Laval, a noteworthy
plate heat exchanger.
• Grindex Pumps and Spares
Products
EC Mining is an amalgamation of the world’s
greatest mining manufacturers. One of its main
products is electric motors. Kansamba says,
“Anything that moves needs a motor. For the

mining application, anything that rotates needs
a motor. You can think about pumps, compressors,
crushers –all those need electric motors.
On top of that we are launching a product which
controls the speed of the motor.”
EC Mining prides itself on only supplying
the best possible products to its customers.
“The main thing is that we only deal with high
quality original manufacturers. We bring the
service to the customers. Every activity that
we are involved in, we fully back up by having
stock in Kitwe and by having technical staff
trained by the original manufacturers of the
equipment. We understand the needs of the
customers and we know the challenges of getting
equipment around here as a land locked
country,” says Kansamba
Its mainstay manufacturers and products

New Elec is a motor protection relay manufacturer
based out of South Africa. Its designs
are innovative and the company is continuously
working to improve its products with extensive
research and development. It states on EC Mining’s
website, “These high tech products meet
latest requirements both locally and overseas.
New Elec’s electric motor protection relays are
used extensively throughout the various South
African industries.”
Condra Crane and Hoists embodies a product
range of lifting equipment from hand and
electric operated chain hosts that are available
from 125 kg to 24 tons. Voith SA manufactures
a variety of products including: start up components,
variable speed coupling/torque conversion
hydrostatic pumps and more. The company’s
vision is the “efficient conversion of primary
energy into mechanical power.”
Other company’s products that EC Mining
utilizes include Zest Electronic Motors which specializes
in low and high voltage motors in sub-Saharan
Africa, Monsanto (Enviro-Chem) Systems
RSA, MECS, Vac Sent Services, David Brown Gear
Industries, Chas S Lewis and Lewis pumps.
The company not only works to supply necessary
equipment to miners but it also provides
post and pre-sales support to its customers,
maintenance and technical support. This makes
