a journey to homeownership - Habitat for Humanity Choptank
A JOURNEY TO HOMEOWNERSHIP:
BUILDING HOMES AND HOPE
2006
Our accomplishments of the past
year were possible thanks to the
many neighbors and friends who
support the work of Habitat for Humanity
of Talbot and Dorchester Counties. Our
accomplishments include new homes for
four families, the completion of our 40th
home, the success of our Apostles Build
project, the launching of a partnership in
Dorchester County to build Habitat
homes, and being distinguished as the
Not-for-Profit of the Year by the Talbot
County Chamber of Commerce. All this
happened because you believe, as we do,
that substandard housing has no place in
our community and that a safe, decent
home is the right of every hard-working
family. Our journey began 15 years ago
when our first partner family accepted the
challenge of working with Habitat to
achieve their dream of owning a home.
The hope in the hearts of our partners
motivates us to continue our mission of
building homes. Thank you for the important
contribution you have made in our
journey toward eliminating substandard
housing in Talbot and Dorchester Counties.

the front door of every home we build. With
your ongoing support, we will continue to
make dreams come true. Highlights of the year:
• 4 homes transferred to Habitat partners
• 3 new homes under construction
• 5 new partner families selected
• 8 families working towards homeownership
• 4 homeowner seminars offered on settlement,
budget, landscaping, and nutrition

“Habitat for Humanity has been a success, not because
we build houses, but because we create hope and build
healthy communities. What we do is not so much about
hammers as it is about our belief that every family,
no matter its circumstances, deserves the opportunity
to own a simple, decent, affordable home and
participate in the benefits of homeownership.”
—LARRY NEVIASER, BOARD PRESIDENT 2004–2006
