From The Manager’s Desk
Hello all,
You can certainly tell winter is here, we have had quite a few cold days and nights. If you haven’t
had your flu vaccination yet, now is a good time to get it done. There is more information on this
on page 14.
You would have noticed by now the new Banksia Grove sign out the front. It stands out very well
to traffic going past, and I’m sure will get more enquires through the door.
Hazel from the Liaison Committee and myself
visited the RAAF base on Friday 7th June.
We weren’t given much notice to see if
anyone else was able to attend so we asked
if we could organise a tour for Banksia
residents in the near future. We will keep you
informed as the when it will happen.
The tour was part of the RAAF’s program to
help the community better understand how
pilots and aricraft operate on the range and in
the vicinity of the Base. The tour included
a Hawk pilot briefing, a simulator
demonstration (over Salt Ash Range) and
morning tea in the Hawk/Roulette rooms. It
was an interesting and memorable
experience.
Bayway Village is holding an Aged and Disabled Care Expo on Thursday 11th July 10am to 4pm
with a free sausage sizzle. It will be a day similar to the one we had here at Banksia Grove
showcasing different Community Services available for people in the Port Stephens area. We are
hoping to organise a shuttle bus from Banksia Grove to Bayway Village for those residents
interested in attending. A notice will be put on the notice board in the hall for those wishing to
attend.
We have had a bit of movement on the homes sales front with quite a few new homes listed for
sale and a few homes sold over the months of May & June. If you know of anyone interested in
buying a home in the village please ask them to either phone or call into the office to see me.

SOCIAL COMMITTEE NEWS
We have had our last raffle for the year and hopefully we will have some more later after the cold
months have gone.
The camera we raffled with the proceeds going to the Cancer Appeal has raised $160.00. This is a good
result, the winner was Illeen Hull. Unfortunately Illeen is away on holidays celebrating their 50th wedding
anniversary with family, but I will let her know when she returns. Thanks to all those who purchased tickets.
Lets hope we can get a new Residents Committee organised soon so that we can all enjoy some entertainment
in our village.

June 5: Pat & Dot played 2 games which seriously, would have to go down as the hardest games they have played
so far – the letters just would not cooperate with them. Kay was able to join in for the third game – good fun
June 12: 2 nd Wednesday – do not play today. However, the need to play overwhelmed Judith, Leanne and Kay
who played 3 games and winning 1 game each

BOOK CLUB
The Banksia Grove Book Club met this month to discuss John Pilger's book The Secret Country. This book
is a series of essays on some controversial subjects in Australian history. It was enjoyed by some and not
by others which led to a lively discussion.
The following books will be up for discussion in the next couple of months.
July: The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society (a delightful and
very readable book), copies readily available from local libraries or we
have a copy circulating in the village. If you would like to read it contact
Pat Marion.
August: we will be reading The Soldiers
Wife by Joanne Trollope
September: Kokoda by Peter
Fitzsimmons. Something a little different
in September as members are invited to
bring along their favourite historical romance

WHAT IS A WILL AND WHY SHOULD I HAVE ONE
A will is a written legal document which is made by a person (the testator) and sets out the distribution of that person’s
property after they die. While many people believe making a will is too costly and a waste of money, the reality
is that if a person dies without a will (intestate) the cost of administering the deceased’s estate can be substantially
higher and the estate will be divided according to a statutory formula which may not be inline with the deceased’s
wishes.
Who should make a will and why
Every adult should have a will as it aids in the administration of their estate once deceased. While many people
would prefer not to think about what would happen if they were to die, it is important to ensure there are instructions
for distribution of property amongst those a deceased leaves behind. By making a will, the testator decides who will
be the legal personal representative after the testator’s death (the executor) and who will receive their property (the
beneficiaries).
Won’t my spouse and children receive all my property anyway
While this is largely true, in the absence of a will there are certain legal rules as to who benefits from a deceased’s
estate and these may not be consistent with the intentions the deceased had for distribution of their estate. Dying
intestate can also result in delay of administration of the estate, conflict as to who is responsible for administering the
estate and increased costs in administering the estate.
Who can I appoint as my executor
The executor under a will may be one or more people or a trustee company. An executor should be a person who,
ideally, can cooperate with the beneficiaries and will not favour one beneficiary over another. If there is no person
available to be appointed as executor then it may be suitable for a trustee company or the NSW Trustee & Guardian
to be appointed. The benefit of not appointing a person as executor is that a trustee company or the NSW Trustee &
Guardian may endure indefinitely, however the costs associated with such an appointment can be quite significant.

When should I change my will
A person should review his or her will if any of the following circumstances occur:
1. Marriage;
2. Divorce;
3. The executor dies or becomes inappropriate;
4. The testator (or a beneficiary) changes his or her name;
5. Any of the beneficiaries die;
6. Birth of a child or grandchild;
7. The assets for distribution change.

was a great game where all players bowled consistently well. In the end it was Don & Cyril who
emerged victors in a very close match 14-13. Don was voted man of the match.

We would like to welcome newcomer to our ranks, Dave McCrindle, we hope he enjoyed himself.
Don Williams & Herb Grgas played Dave McCrindle & Fred Neville. Dave & Fred got off to a good
start, they were leading 13-2 after 8 ends, by the 14th end they were still in front & won the match 19-
13. Dave earned man of the match after some great bowls.
John Hill & Ray Dowse played Peter Dewhurst & Ken McLeod. Peter & Ken won a one sided match.
After some brilliant bowls by Ken the final score 22-4. Ken won man of the match. Ray played with a
new set of red bowls and put that down for his bad performance, but they were beaten by a better
team.
The middle rink was chosen for today’s game when John Hill, Don Williams & Dave McCrindle challenged
Herb Grgas, Peter Dewhurst & Ken McLeod. This was a good game most of the way but
Herb, Peter & Ken proved a little too strong for John, Don & Dave and won the match 15-9. Ken was
again voted man of the match.
Peter Dewhurst & John Hill played Cyril Marion & Ray Copas. This was a close game for awhile then
Cyril & Ray got the upper hand and forged clear to win the match 16-10.

game all the way with Jack & Dave just hanging to win the math 9-8.
John Hill, Don Williams & Ray Copas (skip) played Dave McCrindle, Peter Dewhurst & Ray Dowse
(skip). This game was very even up to the 8th end when the score was 11-11 then Ray Copas & his
team forged ahead to win the match 20-13.
Ken McLeod & Fred Neville played Herb Grgas & Jack Arthur. This game was a one sided affair with
Herb & Jack thrashing Ken & Fred to the tune of 22-5.
John Hill, Don Williams & Pev Cantrell (skip) played Ray Copas, Fred Neville & Ray Dowse (skip).
This was a fairly even game most of the way until Ray’s team forged away at the end to win the math
20-9.
Jack Arthurs, Don Williams & Dave McCrindle (skip) played Herb Grgas, Ken McLeod & Pev Cantrell
(skip). Pev’s team got away to a flying start leadin 11-0 late in the game then all of a sudden Dave’s
team came to life & charged home to win a very exciting match 14-13. Don was man of the match.
Peter Dewhurst & Fred Neville played Cyril Marion & Ray Copas. Can’t say much about this game.
Peter & Fred were the best on the day to run away with the match 22-6.

A young family moved into a house next door to an empty plot. One day, a gang of building workers turned up to start building
on the plot. The young family's five-year-old daughter naturally took an interest in all the activity going on next door and
started talking with the workers.
She hung around and eventually the builders, all with hearts of gold, more or less adopted the little girl as a sort of project
mascot. They chatted with her, let her sit with them while they had tea and lunch breaks, and gave her little jobs to do here
and there to make her feel important. They even gave the child her very own hard hat and gloves, which thrilled her immensely.
At the end of the first week, the smiling builders presented her with a pay envelope - containing $10 in 50c coins. The little girl
took her ‘pay’ home to her mother who suggested that they take the money to the bank the next day to open a savings account.
At the bank, the female cashier was tickled pink listening to the little girl telling her about her 'work' on the building site and
the fact she had a ‘pay packet’.
“You must have worked very hard to earn all this”, said the cashier. The little girl proudly replied, “Yes, I worked every day
with Steve and Wayne and Mike. We're building a big house.”
“My goodness gracious,” said the cashier, “and will you be working on the house again next week” The child thought for a
moment. Then she said seriously, “I think so. Provided those wankers at Boral deliver the bloody bricks on time.”

If you love a curry, but can’t stand the heat these Green Curried Meatballs are worth a try.
Ingredients
Meatballs
•1 onion, finely chopped
•750g chicken mince
•1/2 cup breadcrumbs
•1 egg
•1/4 cup coriander leaves, chopped
•1 1/2 tablespoons green curry paste
•2 tablespoons olive oil
Sauce
•2-3 tablespoons green curry paste
•1 1/2 cups coconut milk
•4 lime leaves, shredded
•1 1/2 tablespoons fish sauce
•3 tablespoons sugar
•1/2 lime, juiced
Method
Meatballs
Place the chopped onion in a microwave-proof dish and cook in the microwave for one minute. Leave to
cool. Combine with remaining ingredients (except the oil). Roll into balls (around 5cm in circumference).
Refrigerate for 20 minutes. Heat oil in a frying pan and cook meatballs for 10 minutes.
Sauce
Cook curry paste in a pan for one minute. Stir in coconut milk and lime leaves. Cook for four minutes until
the sauce boils. Add fish sauce, sugar and meatballs. Cook for six-eight minutes, add lime juice and
serve.

of your intention to offer your home for sale before displaying a "for sale" sign in or on the home.
Before the purchaser of any home signs a site agreement, the Act requires us to make various
detailed written disclosures to them regarding the terms and nature of the site agreement and
their occupancy. If you are using the services of a real estate agent, we suggest that you ask
them to call us to discuss these matters since it may cause problems if the purchaser is not
made aware of them until after an agreement on the sale is reached.
We can not unreasonably withhold consent for a purchaser of your home to take over the site.
However, the purchaser will need to apply to us before we will agree to enter into a site
agreement with them. We will generally need at least 3 working days after receipt of their
application to check their character and credit references.
We will not consider allowing the .purchaser of your home to enter into a site agreement until all
amounts you owe have been paid. If it is proposed that we receive payment on settlement of the
sale, then the settlement should occur in our office so that we can receive any moneys owing at
the time of settlement.
