Volunteers are important
to students in our
school. How can you

The school parking
lot is closed 30 minutes
before and after
school for student
safety. Cars
are not to move in
the lot during that
time period. Please
help us stay safe.
Students should be
let off and picked up
in the front of the
building . No student
should be walking
in the parking lot
at any time!
Students should
only be let out or
picked up at the
curb nearest the
building. They
should never go between
cars!
Students need notes
from both families if
they plan to go
home with a friend.
The notes should be
given to the office.
Students should not
bring carbonated
beverages to school
for lunch. An exploding
can or bottle
is a safety hazard!
Help the student
patrol to aid students
and adults to
cross the streets
safely. If you are
walking, please follow
their directions
about crossing the
street. You make
good role models
for our students.

PRINCIPALS’ READING CHALLENGE
READ! READ! READ! Is the
mantra around the hallways and
in the classrooms at FIS.
Mrs. Brackenhoff and Mrs.
Tritsch know that students who
place an emphasis on reading
nightly are better readers. Reading
is a skill everyone uses every
day. The only way to get better
and to make it easier is to practice.
The teachers often give homework
that involves reading a
library book, a text book, magazine,
or newspaper. All of these
items give students the opportunity
to learn to read for different
things. Sometimes we read for
pleasure and sometimes we read
to make informed decisions or
find facts for reports. Practice
with all kinds of materials is the
only way to become the reading
“expert”.
Mrs. Brackenhoff and Mrs.
Tritsch also recommend reading
something the student enjoys
just before lights out. This helps
with reading and is also a way to
calm the body down so the
student will sleep better.
Reading as a family is also a fun
way to spend time together.
When the family reads a story
or book together it models the
good habit of reading and gives
the family members an opportunity
to discuss the story. You
will find that your children will
want to talk with you about the
book and you might be surprised
at the insight they provide!
