-Gowns-
What to wear….
DRESS CODE for Baccalaureate & Commencement:
Caps and Gowns are worn for both Baccalaureate and Commencement.
Only gowns and caps provided to Fairborn HS by Jostens will be permitted.
Clothing is Mandatory! All students who desire to participate in Baccalaureate and Commencement
must wear a complete set of clothing under his/her cap and gown.
Boys should wear a white or light shirt with a collar and tie with dress pants, socks and dress
shoes. A TIE is Mandatory!
Girls should wear short dresses or skirts and white/black shoes. NO SLACKS!!! A long dress
does NOT look good under the gown. It is NOT necessary to purchase a white dress no matter what
you may hear otherwise!
No corsages, jewelry, or other adornments will be permitted on the gowns. You will receive your
graduation medallion to wear at final line up.
No flip flop shoes are permitted
Your cap and gown is a “uniform” meaning that all the graduates will be dressed similarly and
messages on the caps or gowns will not be permitted.
-CAPS-
CARE OF GOWNS:
Hang the gown on a hanger a few days before commencement to take the folding
wrinkles out of the gown. Hanging the gown in a steamy bathroom will reduce the
wrinkles too, ironing is not recommended. TRY IT ON!!!!
Your cap should be worn so that the top is parallel to the top of your head, not at an angle.
Caps should be securely fastened on the head with bobby pins. Put your cap on with the short
point forward. This short point should be almost between your eyebrows.
Caps are NOT to leave your heads until after the ceremony.
-TASSELS-
o You are officially graduating from Fairborn High School and ONLY the Fairborn
High School tassel will be worn for the ceremonies.
(GCCC tassels will not be permitted.)
o Tassels are to be worn on the left side and left alone until everyone has received
a diploma
o The entire class will switch the tassels in unison to signify that the Class of 2013 has graduated.

IMPORTANT…….
Do not bring purses to either ceremony; there is no place to secure them.
Do not smoke while wearing your gown. If you would burn a hole in it there will not be a
replacement!
Do not come to either ceremony “under the influence” of any intoxicating substance.
You will be removed from the line if you are disorderly.
No balloons, silly string, or other “cute” toys will be permitted.
After the ceremony, all graduates are to report IMMEDIATELY to the upper level of the
Nutter Center behind the stage curtain to pick up his/her diploma. Your diploma case will
be given to you empty during the ceremony; you must pick up your diploma afterwards!
Pick the diploma up FIRST before you see your family and start taking pictures.
Commencement is a day to remember with pride and satisfaction and NO ONE PERSON
should be allowed to spoil the day for the rest of the graduates. (Making a great deal of
noise during one person’s name sometimes drowns out the person’s name that follows).
COMMENCEMENT IS A FORMAL CEREMONY, SO PLEASE RESPECT THE RIGHTS/FEELINGS
OF YOUR FELLOW GRADUATES.
Special Note: Participation in both Baccalaureate and Commencement is a privilege and NOT a
right. Your behavior, as you end the school year, can impact your participation.
Please inform your family members, and friends of the following:
Any disruptive item that is brought to the ceremony, such as:
Fog horns, cow bells, beach balls, balloons, silly string, etc.
will be promptly confiscated by WSU security
