Objective 9: Planning regional pilot conservation educational projects in leopard hotspots<br />

<strong>Conservation</strong> education as intensive projects in local communities has not been expected in<br />

this project. We were hopeful that by <strong>the</strong> end of <strong>the</strong> year of leopard, regional pilot<br />

conservation educational projects within leopards’ hotspots would be planned. However,<br />

we are already achieved our goal, because during 2010, we successfully established two<br />

different projects in central and western Iran <strong>to</strong> educate local people about <strong>the</strong> leopards in<br />

Iran. Projects’ sites were selected based on Mortality Database we developed for <strong>the</strong> Iranian<br />

leopards (Objective 1), particularly Lorestan that around one leopard was confirmed <strong>to</strong> be<br />

poached on a monthly basis in 2010. Due <strong>to</strong> budget constraints, successful fundraising was<br />

done <strong>to</strong> secure <strong>the</strong> projects. Details of <strong>the</strong> projects are as following:<br />
