TWO CAMPUSES AND TONS OF FUN!
Are you looking for a summer program designed to fit the
needs and interests of your child Would your child like
the opportunity to select his/her own schedule of activities
Then MKA’s STAR Camp is for you! Located on two ageappropriate
campuses that include air-conditioned rooms,
swimming pools, turf fields, playgrounds, science labs, art
rooms and high quality athletic facilities, STAR Camp caters
to every child’s interests.
Campers create their own schedule based on their interests
and skills and have the opportunity to try something new.
Our programs promote the development of skills, leadership,
teamwork and self-confidence in a supportive fun-filled
atmosphere. MKA’s STAR Camp (Sports, Theater, Arts and
Recreation) offers a wide variety of athletic, artistic and fun
activities led by our highly qualified staff of professional
teachers and coaches and experienced and enthusiastic
camp counselors. Campers can imagine, create, play and
perform in STAR Camp’s theater, arts and recreation course
offerings or improve their skills in their favorite sport. Our
courses are designed to appeal to all types of campers, so
don’t miss this exciting opportunity for your child to
experience the summer of a lifetime!
Junior STAR Camp, located at MKA’s Primary School campus
at 224 Orange Road in Montclair, hosts campers entering
grades Pre-K-2, while campers in grades 3-8 are based
at MKA’s Upper School Campus at 6 Lloyd Road, Montclair.

MEET THE DIRECTORS
Ralph and Amy Pacifico are
returning as this year’s codirectors.
Together, they have
over 40 years of teaching and
camp experience.
Ralph Pacifico has been
teaching and coaching at
Montclair Kimberley Academy
for 21 years. He is the Director
of Children’s Athletic and
Sports Programming and is
the Head Varsity Baseball coach. Over the course of his tenure at
MKA, Ralph is noted for starting the “Bitty” basketball and baseball
programs in which all children feel confidence and success in the
area of athletics. Every child feels special when they spend time
with “Coach P.”
Amy Pacifico is currently an elementary teacher in the West Orange
Public School System. She has been teaching for 22 years. Amy is
dedicated to makings each camper’s and parent’s experience with
STAR Camp exceptional.

STAR STAFF
STAR Camp takes pride in hiring an excellent staff. Our instructors
and coaches are mature professionals with years of teaching/
coaching experience. They supervise highly energetic college and
high school counselors who are dedicated to making your child’s
summer a memorable experience.

STAR CAMP SCHEDULE:
Six one-week sessions from June 25 – August 3
8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Camp will be closed on Wednesday, July 4, and fees will be
pro-rated for that week.
EXTENDED CARE:
Early morning supervision available from 7:30 – 8:30 a.m.
Late afternoon supervision available from 3:00 – 6:00.p.m. at $10
per hour per camper.
LUNCH
Lunch and snack will be provided by STAR Camp and is included
in the camp tuition. Each day there will be a hot lunch, grilled
cheese, or buttered roll option. All offerings are peanut-free!
Beverage choices will include water, lemonade, and iced tea or
apple juice. Ice pops are provided daily! Water is always available
during the day, and coolers are located on every athletic field.
FEES AND ENROLLMENT INFORMATION
Since enrollment for each course is limited, early application is
encouraged.
1. The fee is $550 per week, $440 for the week of July 2 (closed
July 4) is due with registration.
2. In order to hold a space for your camper(s), payment must be
in full plus a $50 non-refundable registration per child.
3. All money is refundable until May 1, 2012 less the $50
registration fee.
4. There are no refunds or credits due to illness, absence or
suspension.
5. Enrolling for additional weeks is subject to availability.
6. All campers must submit a completed Registration Form with
Medical Information (see enclosed). No camper will be
permitted to attend camp without this form, and no credits or
refunds will be issued.
7. The camp reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to suspend
or dismiss any camper if his or her conduct is detrimental to
the well-being of the camp or of any other camper(s), and no
refunds or credits will be issued.
8. Please note: Course offerings are subject to minimum
enrollment and staff availability.

Each camper will be able to select five different activities from the
STAR Camp Course Offerings for each week of registration, and
will participate in those five activities each day:

Junior STAR Camp Course Offerings
Junior STAR Camp provides an opportunity for young children
entering grades Pre-K-2 to be supervised in a core group of sameaged
campers during most of the day AS WELL AS allowing them
to make some choices for classes they want to take. Every
camper’s schedule will include daily swim instruction and gym.
Our 4-year-olds will also have “Activity Time” at the end of their
day. The remainder of the day will be filled with different activities
of their choice from the following:
Bitty Basketball
An MKA school tradition is coming to Junior STAR Camp! Players
will learn the basics of shooting, dribbling and passing the ball in
this popular sport.
Build-A-Mania
This class is a little builder’s dream! Have fun creating structures
with Legos ® , blocks and lots of fun accessories!
Dancing with the Junior STARs
Learn fun dance routines to today’s latest music! Campers will
develop their rhythm, coordination and motor skills while having fun!
Edible Art
Little campers will have fun mixing, rolling, measuring and creating
edible projects. Yummy and entertaining!
Jr. Art Adventures
Campers will create artwork using an assortment of media such
as paints, markers, paper bags, cardboard and more. Campers
will be cutting, painting, gluing, drawing and creating magnificent
artwork for everyone to enjoy. Please note: Campers should bring
in an old T-shirt to wear for painting.

Jr. STAR’s Got Talent
At our young campers request, this year Junior STAR will have its
own weekly show. Campers will work with counselors throughout
the week to prepare singing, dancing or other acts to be performed
each Friday. Broadway—here we come!
Kiddie Computer Genius
Keyboarding skills, basic Photoshop and video creation are just
part of this tech class created especially for our littlest campers!
Lil’ Campers Crafts
Have fun making fuse beads, bracelets, key chains, lanyards and
crafty stuff while hanging with your favorite counselors in this
class.
Little Kickers Soccer
Learn the basics of dribbling, passing, and scoring with our Junior
STAR coaches. Skills, drills, fun and games will keep your little
kicker active!
Science and Nature
Build a rocket, study live species, have fun with experiments and
science in a real science lab. Hands-on experiences are at the
heart of this program.
Zip Bounce and Slide
Yes, you can believe it! Junior STARs has its own zip line complete
with mats and safety equipment for your daring young campers!
Our gigantic bounce house and water slides will also keep energetic
campers jumping and playing. This is sure to be a summer
highlight!

STAR Camp Course Offerings
STAR Camp Sports
“Teams are made during the season.
Players are made during the off-season.”
The STAR Camp Sports programs are ideal for young players to
begin working on their skills at an early and impressionable age.
Older campers will have the opportunity to improve their skills.
All camp athletes will be grouped by age and ability. Teamwork
and good sportsmanship are the core of STAR Camp’s sports
programs. All of our sports offerings are taught by experienced
coaches.
All-STAR Baseball
Each day will consist of skill work including throwing, catching,
infield and outfield play, hitting, bunting and base running
fundamentals.
All-STAR Basketball
STAR Camp’s coaching staff will work on passing techniques,
defensive positions, communication, rebounding and ball handling
and basketball philosophies.
Cheerleading
If you love to dance and cheer, then you’re just the camper for this
class. You’ll learn dances, cheers, chants, stunts, jumps and other
fun cheering activities! Learn STAR Camp cheers to perform in the
show on Fridays.
Exercise with the STARS (New this year!)
Yoga, aerobics, pilates, zumba and basic gymnastics are all part of
this high energy class. A great way to get fit and have fun!

Fencing
Learn the footwork fundamentals to all three weapons of fencing.
Campers will develop self-discipline, coordination and sportsmanship
and participate in a Tournament Friday where they can test
out their new skills!
Golf Clinic
Learn swing mechanics, set up and grip techniques from a
licensed PGA professional. Equipment will be provided.
Old School PE
Games like Dodge Ball, Floor Hockey, Team Handball, Capture the
Flag, Whiffle Ball and Newcomb will get campers up and moving.
Team building and sportsmanship are at the heart of this traditional
program.
Rock Climbing
Work with skilled instructors to build rock-climbing expertise!
MKA’s facilities provide challenges for all levels of climber, from the
first timer to the skilled veteran.
All-STAR Football
Instruction will be given in throwing, catching, and blocking and
other offensive and defensive skills. Fun games and skill
competitions ensure a great time for all!
All-STAR Lacrosse
Grab your sticks and get ready for fun on MKA’s beautiful turf field.
No prior experience necessary! The skills and drills for cradling,
shooting, passing and basic defensive concepts taught in this
course guarantee improvement in all players.

All-STAR Soccer
An experienced coach and collegiate players will be on hand to
teach you key soccer techniques through challenging drills and fun
competitions appropriate to your level of play. World Cup Day will
be a highlight!
Strength and Fitness Training
Take advantage of MKA’s newly designed weight room and
equipment. Instruction will focus on total body fitness for a strong
and healthy lifestyle while also improving camper’s speed and agility.
Swimming
Divided into 6 levels for beginning to advanced swimmers, students
are taught by top-notch instructors. Levels are: introduction to
water skills, fundamental aquatic skills, stroke development, stroke
improvement, stroke refinement and swimming skill proficiency.
STAR Camp Theater, Arts and Recreation

Imagine, create, play and perform in STAR Camp’s theater, arts
and recreation course offerings. Please note that, if your child is
enrolled in “Dancing with the STARS” or “STAR Camp’s Got
Talent,” there will be a 2:00 p.m. show every Friday. Come and
watch your STAR performer.
Archery
Take aim at a real camp challenge as STAR Camp looks back to
the days of Robin Hood! During the course of the week, campers
will learn the basics of archery, gain accuracy and compete in daily
and weekly challenges.

Art Adventures
Create artwork using an assortment of media such as paints,
markers, paper bags, cardboard and more. Campers will be cutting,
painting, gluing, drawing and creating magnificent artwork for
everyone to enjoy. Please note: Campers should bring in an old
T-shirt to wear for painting.
Boys Rule!
Hang with the guys—homemade tattoos, string friendship bracelets,
arm wrestling, secret handshakes and more are part of this
course created by request of the STAR Camp boy campers!
Chess and Board Games
Take a break, relax, sit back and enjoy the classic games like
chess, checkers and more. Gaming tournaments are part of the
fun!
Computer Genius I
Explore the Mac system in this fun-filled cyber class! Campers will
have fun with Basic Photoshop and Photo Booth programs experimenting
with special effects, distance and object distortion. Make
individual and group movies with iMovie and create your own web
page with the iWeb program.
Computer Genius II
This course is designed for the older or more advanced computer
fan. Campers will explore advanced Photoshop and iMovie options,
animation using the Flash program, vocal recording and
digital music mixing using GarageBand.
Creative Cartooning
If you love to draw, then this course is for you. With the guidance
of a professional cartoonist, campers will develop and create their
own cartoons and comic books.

Dancing with the STAR’s
Learn the latest moves and choreograph dance routines to the
latest popular songs, then perform them at STAR Camp’s Friday
Show!
Duct Tape Designs (New this year!)
Join the new craze! Create fashions and accessories with colorful
duct tape!
Girls Rule!
Chill out with your friends, listen to music and make beaded
jewelry and string friendship bracelets. STAR girls will also make
lanyard and fuse beads creations. Spend time at the manicure
counter for some cool nail art.
Legomania
Put your architectural skills to work while creating a variety of
planes, cars, trucks, spaceships, boats and buildings using
Legos ® . Campers use their imaginations to build, play with and
share their structures.
Mad Science
Icky, gooey, slimy and exploding projects are all part of the science
fun in this new STAR Camp course. Learn science while having
fun!
Origami Master (New this year!)
Learn Japanese paper folding techniques and create three-dimensional
paper objects such as cranes, stars, airplanes, boats, frogs
and more!
Pinewood Derby Car Racing
Campers design, build, decorate and then race their cars on STAR
Camp’s Pinewood Derby racetrack. All campers will bring home
their cars at the end of the week. Please note: There will be an
additional charge of $50 that will be billed separately.

Robotics
Build your own robot to take home! Learn the fundamentals of
gear drives, basic electronics, and schematics to build a robot.

billed separately.
STAR Cake Decorating
Kids love to bake! The STAR Camp decorating instructor will walk
campers through basic techniques and assist them as they plan
and perfect designs on their own cupcakes, small cakes or
cookies. There will be an additional charge of $10 for this class
that will be billed separately.
STAR Camp Idol
Get ready for the best show in NJ! SPECIAL GUEST STAR
CELEBRITY actor/singer DOMINIC SCAGLIONE – now playing
Frankie Valli in the Broadway smash hit Jersey Boys will be on
hand once a week to give insights and advice to help hone your
performance! Work with counselors to perfect your talents and
then perform in the weekly show!
STAR Camp Journalists
Learn what it takes to be a reporter. Find out about the who, what,
where and why of S.T.A.R. Camp as we put together a weekly newsletter.
Effective interview techniques as well as photojournalism will
be explored.
STAR Movie Making (New this year!)
Learn the ins and outs of video making. Create a screenplay,
shoot and direct your own short film, starring YOU! Our experienced
staff will also teach you how to cut, edit and add a
soundtrack to your movies!
Top-STAR Chefs
Make kid-friendly recipes that are fun and tasty! Create menus
and take home recipes. Please note: There will be an additional
charge of $10 that will be billed separately.
FOR OUR OLDER CAMPERS…
STAR Camp’s Counselor-in-Training Program
This program is specifically designed for the older campers. 7th
and 8th grade campers can create a schedule where they can
participate as campers in several courses and help assist counselors
with younger campers in other periods. CIT’s will gain the
confidence and training needed to work with and engage young
campers.

Groove and Move Dance Class
Learn how to move to the Locations
beat of music, how to put together
dance moves into individual and group routines and how to assemble
your own choreographed group dance.
Legomania
Put your architectural skill to work while creating a variety of
planes, cars, trucks, spaceships, boats and buildings using legos.
Campers use their imaginations to build, play with and share their
structures.

Papier-Mâché Paradise
Campers will learn about the ancient Papier-Mâché techniques
and create their own creative, decorative sculptures ranging from
animals, people and buildings to dinosaurs.
Pinewood Derby Car Racing
Campers Junior design, STAR build, Camp decorate and then race their cars on STAR
Camp’s new MKA Pinewood Primary School Derby Campus Racetrack. All campers will bring
home their 224 cars Orange at the Road end of the week. Please note: There will be
an additional Montclair, charge NJ of 07042 $50 for this class that will be billed separately.
Quick on the Draw!
Study the art of cartooning and acquire skills to improve your
drawing styles. Campers will create their own unique cartoon
characters, with personalities and special abilities while working
together to make a mural that tells a story about their character.
Rocketry
3,2,1… Campers design, build and launch their very own model
rockets, enter two rocket decorating contests, compete in speed

building contests and attempt to track the height of their rockets.

STAR Camp Idol
Participants will have the opportunity to practice popular songs of
their choice. STAR Microphone Camp technique in live performance and stage
presence MKA will be Upper covered School as Campus campers memorize and perform their
chosen pieces, 6 Lloyd culminating Road in a performance for all campers.
