Fundraising and Philanthropy for Waldorf Schools

Raising charitable gift money has never been more important or more challenging. However,
many Waldorf schools and other spiritually-inspired organizations merely copy the “best
practices” of the nonprofit sector. This often leads to problems and conflicts with the values of
Waldorf education and anthroposophy. This weekend workshop is an introduction that will set
you and your organization on the path to developing practices that support your organization’s
core values. Martin Novom is a certified fundraiser with the Association of Fundraising
Professionals and Director of our Waldorf Administration Program.

The Art of Enrollment—
Building on What Works for Waldorf Schools
July 31 with Kelly Brewer, Davis Waldorf School
Kelly Brewer, a graduate of the Waldorf Administration Program, is known throughout the
region for her thorough and imaginative enrollment work. Her 90-minute workshop at the
February Western Waldorf Educators’ Conference resulted in requests for more. From her many
years at her school, her work with AWSNA and the DANA network in addition to the Waldorf
Administration Program, she has honed a set of effective steps. As a participant you will create
a calendar of enrollment events for your school enlivening your established procedures. This
interactive workshop will bring together staff and volunteers from schools around the region to
share problems, solutions and an overview of the principles that are working well and producing
results. Bring brochures and other enrollment/outreach materials to share.

Individual one-week course offerings from
the Waldorf Administration Program
Beginning the summer of 2010 each of the four weeks per year of the part time training of the
Waldorf Administration Program will be available as individual one-week course offerings.
Each week has a thematic topic with a lead teacher, an art and movement class, as well as
interactive work with the students in the program. A syllabus is available for each of these weeklong
intensive learning experiences.
Effective Communication and Meeting Leadership

To work effectively in a Waldorf school requires an understanding and familiarity with
consensus decision-making, meeting facilitation, conflict resolution, mandating and effective
committee practices. Join students of the Waldorf Administration Program to learn important
skills, widen your perspective and improve your mastery in an arts and experiential format.
Our primary teacher is Lysbeth Borie with the Alpha Institute, a master facilitator and teacher
of consensus decision-making.

Philanthropy as an Agent for Change and Stability

This five-day intensive builds on the Fundraising and Philanthropy for Waldorf Schools weekend
workshop to help students develop and manage a set of philanthropic programs that integrate
volunteering, volunteer leadership and charitable giving. The full-day design includes lectures,
an art class, small group work and historical biographies that combine to offer practical steps
and a philosophical deepening. Martin Novom brings his 30 years of anthroposophical studies
and work with more than 75 Waldorf schools.
