The Honor Ball 2011
Celebrates 35 Years of Community Philanthropy
One of the Valley’s most enduring, fun and successful
black-tie events, Scottsdale Healthcare Foundation’s
Honor Ball, celebrated its 35th edition on February 5.
More than 800 guests attended the ball which was
held at the Phoenician Resort where the Grand
Ballroom was bathed in vibrant colors of coral and
jade in tribute to the 35th anniversary. Two lounge
areas also known as “Studio 35” flanked the main
stage area and offered a retro respite for those who
wanted to take a break from the packed dance floor.
The Jacqueline Foster Orchestra provided the night’s
entertainment which included musical medleys
from Michael Jackson to hits from the 80s and 90s.

The enthusiastic crowd danced the night away and
donned colorful masks and neon flashing glasses.
This year’s historic event was chaired by a special
committee of past Honor Ball chairmen. Twenty-five
past Honor Ball chairmen were on hand and
recognized with beautiful custom made sashes
bearing their names and the year in which they
chaired the Honor Ball.
Natalie and Ed Gaylord took center stage and
were recognized as the 2011 honorees. This
dynamic couple was honored for their extraordinary
community service, philanthropy and support of
Scottsdale Healthcare, including the new Gaylord
Family Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Scottsdale
Healthcare Shea Medical Center. Ed also serves
on Scottsdale Healthcare Foundation’s Board of
Trustees and is chair of the Scottsdale Healthcare
Community Cancer Advisory Committee.
It was truly a family affair for the Gaylords as Natalie
and Ed’s four young sons were on hand to witness
the outpouring of appreciation for their parents.
While the festivities proved once again that The
Honor Ball is truly one of the Valley’s “best parties,”
the night’s main purpose was echoed by Tom Sadvary,
president and chief executive officer of Scottsdale
Healthcare, “We are here tonight enjoying this
wonderful party; however, there is a higher purpose
to the ball. All proceeds will benefit patient research,
programs and services of the Virginia G. Piper Cancer
Center at Scottsdale Healthcare.”
Since its inception 35 years ago,
The Honor Ball has raised more than
$9 million to support patient and
community services at Scottsdale
Healthcare.
“We are very proud of The Honor Ball’s rich history,”
said John Ferree, president of Scottsdale Healthcare
Foundation. “We are so grateful for all of the support
through the years, especially our dedicated chairmen,
physicians and the community. We look forward to
another fun and rewarding 35 years!” n
