EDC Hosts Namibian Ambassador<br />
On February 4th, the <strong>Metro</strong> <strong>Orlando</strong> EDC, Rollins College and<br />
Holland & Knight, P.A., hosted His Excellency Patrick Nandago,<br />
Ambassador for the Republic of Namibia to the United States, for a<br />
special reception to recognize the appointment of Stephen W.<br />
Snively, partner with Holland & Knight, as Honorary Consul of the<br />
Republic of Namibia for the State of Florida. Snively’s<br />
responsibilities include promoting tourism, investment, trade,<br />
educational opportunities and cultural exchanges between Florida<br />
and Namibia.<br />

Emotionally moved by a media story on the Republic of Namibia<br />
and his desire to help, Snively created a non-profit scholarship<br />
program called Scholarships for Namibia that enable Namibians to<br />
earn land-surveying degrees at one of the country’s top colleges.<br />
The Namibian government recognized his efforts and decided to<br />
name him Honorary Consul.<br />
Namibia is a democratic nation with a thriving free market economy located on the southwest coast of Africa.<br />

The EDC is proud to welcome Dr. Galo Enríquez Enríquez as the newly appointed<br />
Honorary Consul to Ecuador for our region. We look forward to working with him in<br />

This section highlights international economic development news from <strong>Metro</strong> <strong>Orlando</strong> and spotlights efforts of<br />
the EDC's International Business <strong>Development</strong> Team. The EDC's vision and mission are as follows:<br />
Vision: To create and sustain a prosperous and diverse business community.<br />
Mission: In concert with our investors and partners, to build a diverse economy capable of<br />
withstanding dramatic shifts in the global marketplace and to position <strong>Metro</strong> <strong>Orlando</strong> as the world’s<br />
premier business location.<br />
In February 2008, the <strong>Metro</strong> <strong>Orlando</strong> EDC's International Business <strong>Development</strong> Team:<br />
• Met with a Seminole County company considering startup of an export business.<br />
• Responded to three inquiries from Germany, the Netherlands and Brazil.<br />
• Met with Orange County officials and Siemens Medical to discuss the bio<strong>Orlando</strong> mission to Europe.<br />
• Worked with consultants in planning an inbound delegation of former international Stock Exchange<br />
officials. This is the first time this group will come together formally, with <strong>Orlando</strong> as their chosen<br />
meeting destination.<br />
• Attended the Caribbean American Chamber of Commerce and Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Board<br />
Meetings.<br />
• Hosted a Spanish delegation to discuss their interest in our region for investing in renewable energy.<br />
• Met with companies from Argentina, Mexico, and Germany considering our region as potential location<br />
for their expansion in the USA.<br />
• Met with an Orange County official and the ambassador of Namibia to discuss further connections<br />
between <strong>Orlando</strong> and Namibia.<br />
• Met with a consulting company to discuss the strengths and opportunities available in the <strong>Metro</strong> <strong>Orlando</strong><br />
market.<br />
• Met with Northeast Osceola County Industry Catalysts to discuss the past and future economic<br />
environment of Osceola County.<br />
• Met with former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich to discuss the needs of the Hispanic Community in<br />
the Central Florida region.<br />
• Met with a representative from the Center for U.S. Global Engagement, the educational arm of the U.S.<br />
Global Leadership Campaign that unites business, humanitarian, faith-based, community, foreign policy<br />
and military leaders around the country to broaden our understanding of America’s interests in building a<br />
better, safer world.<br />
• Met with CVB and GOAA representatives to discuss airline-marketing strategy in Latin America.<br />
• Met with a local developer to explain how we can assist them in entering the international market.<br />
• Met with Crown Plaza <strong>Orlando</strong> Universal executives to discuss <strong>Orlando</strong> as a Business destination.
