This section highlights international economic development news from Metro Orlando and spotlights efforts of the EDC's International Business Development Team. The EDC's vision and mission are as follows: Vision: To create and sustain a prosperous and diverse business community. Mission: In concert with our investors and partners, to build a diverse economy capable of withstanding dramatic shifts in the global marketplace and to position Metro Orlando as the world’s premier business location. In February 2008, the Metro Orlando EDC's International Business Development Team: • Met with a Seminole County company considering startup of an export business. • Responded to three inquiries from Germany, the Netherlands and Brazil. • Met with Orange County officials and Siemens Medical to discuss the bioOrlando mission to Europe. • Worked with consultants in planning an inbound delegation of former international Stock Exchange officials. This is the first time this group will come together formally, with Orlando as their chosen meeting destination. • Attended the Caribbean American Chamber of Commerce and Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Board Meetings. • Hosted a Spanish delegation to discuss their interest in our region for investing in renewable energy. • Met with companies from Argentina, Mexico, and Germany considering our region as potential location for their expansion in the USA. • Met with an Orange County official and the ambassador of Namibia to discuss further connections between Orlando and Namibia. • Met with a consulting company to discuss the strengths and opportunities available in the Metro Orlando market. • Met with Northeast Osceola County Industry Catalysts to discuss the past and future economic environment of Osceola County. • Met with former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich to discuss the needs of the Hispanic Community in the Central Florida region. • Met with a representative from the Center for U.S. Global Engagement, the educational arm of the U.S. Global Leadership Campaign that unites business, humanitarian, faith-based, community, foreign policy and military leaders around the country to broaden our understanding of America’s interests in building a better, safer world. • Met with CVB and GOAA representatives to discuss airline-marketing strategy in Latin America. • Met with a local developer to explain how we can assist them in entering the international market. • Met with Crown Plaza Orlando Universal executives to discuss Orlando as a Business destination.
