DIVISION COMMISSIONING CEREMONY

The VADM James H. Flatley Jr. division commissioning ceremony took place at the
Navy Operational Support Center (NOSC) in Green Bay, WI.
From the commissioning booklet: …”The sea cadets instill pride, discipline, and devo-
tion to duty. Each cadet is taught to respect their country, to have pride in their
achievements, and to have the self-discipline to accomplish any goal they set for
themselves. Cadets are also taught the fundamentals of leadership, the importance
of teamwork, and a variety of personal growth skills.
To broaden the cadets understanding of military operation, they are exposed to many
different aspects of maritime services. They are afforded the opportunity to experi-
ence direct involvement as a member of a Naval or Coast Guard unit. During these
trainings, cadets are expected to participate at the same level of responsibility, ac-
countability, and dedication as their military counterparts.
The heart of the commissioning ceremony is the reading of the commissioning warrant
and the assumption of command. Upon commissioning, this division inherits the proud
traditions dating back to the origins of the Sea Cadets and officially enters the operat-
ing fleet of the Naval Sea Cadet Corps.”
