Humanitarian Award<br />
May 9, Pintor Sitanggang (2008, Th.M.; 2012, Ph.D.)<br />
was awarded <strong>the</strong> Indonesian American Humanitarian<br />
Award by Illinois Secretary <strong>of</strong> St<strong>at</strong>e Jesse White. The<br />
Rev. Dr. Sitanggang was honored for his volunteer<br />
work with <strong>the</strong> Indonesian community in Chicago.<br />
While studying and working <strong>at</strong> LSTC, Pintor was<br />
an advisor <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Christian Indonesian Community<br />
Fellowship in Chicago, an ecumenical community<br />
th<strong>at</strong> unites all <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Indonesian churches. He also<br />
volunteered as a transl<strong>at</strong>or in hospitals, schools, for<br />
court cases, and when people met with <strong>at</strong>torneys<br />
about gaining asylum in <strong>the</strong> U.S. With <strong>the</strong> Indonesian<br />
churches, he also helped with seminars and consult<strong>at</strong>ions<br />
about immigr<strong>at</strong>ion issues and laws.<br />
The award ceremony took place in Chicago as part<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> st<strong>at</strong>e’s observance <strong>of</strong> Asian Pacific American<br />
Heritage Month.<br />
