October 27- 28 Presidential Install<strong>at</strong>ion<br />
The Rev. Dr. James R. Nieman will be installed as<br />
LSTC’s seventh president on Sunday, October 28,<br />
<strong>at</strong> 4 p.m. ELCA Presiding Bishop Mark Hanson will<br />
preside <strong>at</strong> <strong>the</strong> install<strong>at</strong>ion ceremony <strong>at</strong> Rockefeller<br />
Memorial Chapel, 5850 South Woodlawn Ave.,<br />
Chicago. The Rev. Dr. Barbara Lundblad will preach.<br />
Immedi<strong>at</strong>ely following <strong>the</strong> service, meet <strong>the</strong> new<br />
president and his spouse, <strong>the</strong> Rev. JoAnn Post, <strong>at</strong> a<br />
reception <strong>at</strong> LSTC.<br />
S<strong>at</strong>urday, October 27, <strong>at</strong> 1:30 p.m. a forum will be<br />
held with guest panelist Dr. Nancy Ammerman, pr<strong>of</strong>essor<br />
<strong>of</strong> sociology <strong>of</strong> religion <strong>at</strong> Boston University;<br />
Dr. Bonnie Miller-McLemore, E. Rhodes and Leona<br />
B. Carpenter Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Pastoral <strong>Theology</strong> and<br />
Counseling <strong>at</strong> Vanderbilt University; and <strong>the</strong> Rev.<br />
Dr. Michael Burk, bishop <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> ELCA’s Sou<strong>the</strong>astern<br />
Iowa Synod. Recent LSTC alumni will serve as respondents<br />
to <strong>the</strong> panelists. James Nieman will present an<br />
inaugural lecture following <strong>the</strong> panel discussion and<br />
response. A public reception follows <strong>the</strong> event.<br />
Many Voices, One Story: LSTC celebr<strong>at</strong>es its<br />
first 50 Years<br />
In 2012-2013 LSTC will use <strong>the</strong> marks <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> seminary<br />
to interpret our 50 th anniversary <strong>the</strong>me, “Many<br />
Voices, One Story,” through public events.<br />
On October 6, <strong>the</strong> Tithing and Stewardship<br />
Found<strong>at</strong>ion will hold a day-long workshop,<br />
“Preaching and Stewardship” led by <strong>the</strong> Axel Jacob<br />
and Gerda Maria (Swanson) Carlson Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong><br />

2013 Leadership Lectures: Interfaith convers<strong>at</strong>ions<br />
A Center <strong>of</strong> Christian-Muslim Engagement for<br />
Peace and Justice is planning <strong>the</strong> 2013 Leadership<br />
Conference, scheduled for Monday, March 11.<br />
The one-day conference will focus on how we as<br />
Christians understand and talk about o<strong>the</strong>r faiths.<br />
Workshops will include helping pastors and o<strong>the</strong>rs<br />
to lead congreg<strong>at</strong>ional studies using a new DVD<br />
series from <strong>the</strong> Islamic Society <strong>of</strong> America and study<br />
guide written by Dr. Carol Schersten LaHurd. More<br />
