SUMMARY
The most common patent strategy for
Japanese companies when filing patent
applications internationally is to have a patent
applicant drafted for filing in the Japan Patent
Office (JPO) and then simply translating the
application into local languages (e.g., English
and Chinese) and then filing the Japandrafted
application in the United States,
Europe, China, etc."
"
This international filing strategy raises several
issues that can affect patent quality.
While
there is a short-term cost saving to the
Japanese company, the applications drafted
according to Japanese patent law are being
filed in countries where the laws are different
from Japan."
"
Filing mere translations of Japanese patent
applications in foreign countries without
properly preparing the translation for filing can
be dangerous for the Japanese companies. A
short term cost saving now could result in loss
of patent rights later if a a translated
application is not properly prepared for filing.
China is especially strict."
"
The above issues are the focus of this
seminar. Experienced attorney lecturers will
present real application examples of
Japanese applications that have been
translated into Chinese and English for filing
in China, the US, and Europe and will offer
solutions to the problems that arise from filing
Japanese translated applications."
