As the only service of its kind in Minnesota, Sha’arim is committed to 

providing an opportunity for every Jewish child (and young adult) with 

special needs to: 

• Receive a Jewish education; 

• Experience inclusion as a vital and active participant in the 

classroom; 

• Socialize and be part of his/her peer group; and 

• Participate in a rich and meaningful life within the Jewish 

community. 

With inclusion at the forefront of our mission, Sha’arim partners with 8 

Jewish educational programs in the Twin Cities which include Bais Yaakov, 

Bet Shalom, Lubavitch Cheder, Shir Tikvah, Talmud Torah of Minneapolis, 

Talmud Torah of St. Paul, Temple Israel, and Torah Academy. Sha’arim 

provides resource room education services for Jewish children with 

special needs who want to learn in a mainstream Jewish educational setting. 

In addition, consultation, screenings and parent advocacy is provided.

DARKAYNU FOR YOUTH provides a self-contained alternative Jewish 

education to children in grades K-12 with moderate to severe disabilities 

who are unable to attend mainstream Jewish educational programming 

alongside typical peers after all possible interventions have been attempted. 

DARKAYNU FOR YOUNG ADULTS explores new ways to enhance the lives 

of Jewish young adults with special needs and provide them with many 

opportunities to take part in Jewish education and a wide variety of Jewish 

activities. 

DARKAYNU CAFÉ is a monthly program specifically geared towards 

Jewish young adults who come together and socialize, listen, and sing 

along to Jewish music from tefillah, camp, and popular Hebrew songs. The 

participants gain educationally and stay connected through song and 

social interaction. 

Darkaynu collaborates with the Sabes JCC Inclusion Department and JHAP. 

THE FRIENDS ‘N FUN PROGRAM provides guided and supported recreational 

activities for children and young adults with special needs in the 

Jewish community. Many children and young adults in the Minneapolis 

Jewish community who present with disabilities and challenges lack a 

community of same age peers and opportunities to join in meaningful and 

fun events with other Jewish children or young adults. The program provides 

teen and young adult volunteers from throughout the Twin Cities Jewish 

community, who act as mentors and friends for these individuals to meet 

others in a guided fun and exciting atmosphere. The program also provides 

much needed short term respite care for the parents of our participants.

A Chinese Auction is really many raffles going on 

at once, each with its own winner. With so many raffle 

prizes, your odds of winning are that much greater! 

In this year’s auction invitation and book, you will 

find a full view of all 50 prizes. 

HERE’S HOW IT WORKS 

• Bid on multiple prizes by placing tickets with your name 

and phone number in the boxes illustrated with the prize 

of your choice. 

• Prizes are divided into categories in denominations of 

$10, $15, $25, $35, and $50. 

• You decide which prizes to bid on, and how many tickets 

to place in each box. 

• At the conclusion of bidding, one winning ticket is drawn 

from each prize box. Most of the prizes can be taken 

home on the evening of the event. 

• Winners need not be present.
