WELCOME TO THE 2010-2011 SCHOOL YEAR!
Welcome back to another school year and a special welcome to our new students! I am very
excited about what lies ahead for our students and staff as we follow a banner year in 2009-2010.
What a great year to be a Blazer! In 2009, the Blazer Football Team, for the fi rst time, advanced
to the State Championship game, the Blazer Boys Basketball Team attained the 5A third place
trophy, and the girls track and fi eld brought home the State Championship Title. In addition,
numerous student athletes in wrestling, cross country, tennis, bowling, and golf participated in
state competition. Our athletic programs strived for greatness and their eff orts were recognized
state-wide.
Th e Gardner Edgerton High School band, orchestra and choir continue to excel at unprecedented levels. Numerous
Superior and Excellent Performance ratings were achieved with hundreds of gold and silver medals awarded, and enough
trophies attained to fi ll a display case. Our music programs have acquired a reputation others only dream to achieve.
Academically in 2009-2010, the school district also advanced to new levels of success. A total of six Gardner Edgerton
schools have received the Governor’s Achievement Award – an award presented only to the top 5 percent of schools in the
state of Kansas. Th at’s incredible! In 2009, all district schools received the State Standard of Excellence. Preliminary fi gures
for the 2010 Kansas Assessment results affi rm continued high achievement for State Standard of Excellence in math and
reading. Congratulations to our students, staff and parents for your commitment to exceed expectations in the classroom!
In addition to the exciting performances by our students on the fi eld and in the classroom, our professional staff has
achieved numerous accolades as well. Th e district was honored with two Horizon First Year Award winners, a District III
Athletic Director of the Year winner, a Fox 4 Crystal Apple Award winner, a Food Service Director of the Year winner for
a six-state region, the KAMSA Middle School Gold Medal Recognition for both Wheatridge Middle School and Pioneer
Ridge Middle School, a Rotary Educator of the Year winner, and a Presidential Award for Math and Science Teaching
winner. Recognitions such as these exemplify the quality of this District and those who choose to teach in USD 231.
Gardner Edgerton’s distinction and pride grows because of the collective eff orts of all of our stakeholders. Together, we have
many accomplishments and successes to be proud of, but at the same time, many more are yet to come. I am truly excited
and energized about the possibilities that await us in 2010-2011, and confi dent another banner year is on the horizon!
Sincerely, y
STUDENT INSURANCE
Gardner Edgerton USD 231 does not cover students
with life or health insurance. If your child is injured
