A hose literally goes through a lot. 

It is prepared for this from the beginning. 

Vulcanization 

Vulcanization is a chemical-technical 

procedure developed by Charles 

Goodyear in 1839 whereby plastic 

is exposed to time, temperature 

and pressure to make it resistant 

to atmospheric and chemical influences 

as well as mechanical stress. 

At the end of this procedure the 

processed material has permanently 

elastic properties, returns to its 

original state after being exposed 

to mechanical stress, is more tearresistant 

and elastic, and exhibits 

greater resistance to aging and exposure 

to atmospheric conditions. 

For vulcanization we use neoprene, 

silicone and special materials such 

as Viton or Hypalon. High-quality 

raw materials, a high degree of 

skilled craftsmanship using semiautomatic 

machines are required 

before the hoses are put into the 

furnace for vulcanization. Our quality 

products are based on decades 

of experience in vulcanisation. 

The perfectly reliable products for 

applications in the medium to high 

temperature range are marked by 

a large degree of flexibility, very 

low weight and a long service life 

even under permanently high temperatures.


Extrusion 

Extrusion comes from the Latin 

extrudere, to expel, to thrust out. 

In the extrusion method plastics 

are pushed through a jet in a continuous 

process. To this end the 

plastic — the extrudate — first has 

to pass through a so-called worm 

extruder or screw extrusion press, 

so it melts and becomes homogenized 

through heat and internal 

friction. In addition, the pressure required 

for passing through the jet is 

built up in the worm extruder. After 

passing through the jet, the plastic 

usually sets in a water-cooled calibration 

unit. 

At SHP Primaflex we produce our 

hoses for the most part automatically 

using the extrusion method. 

We process various materials during 

this process, such as PVC, 

polyurethane (PU) or thermoplastic 

elastomers (TPE), applying a 

special machine technology. This 

technology, which is unique in 

Germany, allows us to produce extremely 

flexible and durable as well 

as tensile hoses. The special feature 

here is the longitudinal and 

transverse fibres. It allows us to 

achieve not only greater flexibility 

of the product but at the same time 

better properties—such as pressure 

resistance—than are possible with 

similar products without fibre reinforcement. 

Sewing 

Sewing is the general term for connecting 

two pieces of material by 

way of a seam. Technically speaking, 

this is done by way of a needle 

and either only one thread or, using 

a sewing machine, with two threads, 

an upper and a lower thread. 

At SHP Primaflex we sew together 

everything from light, PVC-coated 

tissue to heavy textiles made of high 

temperature-proof material with our 

industrial sewing machines, which 

have been custom adapted to meet 

our tough standards. Extensive 

specialized expertise and decades 

of experience give you a quality 

advantage. SHP Primaflex products 

are evenly flexible, extremely resilient, 

durable and reliable even under 

the toughest conditions.

Subsequent processing 

& customizing 

From one-off job orders to large-scale production

lengths or modifications in shape— 

our experienced Subsequent Processing 

& Customizing staff not 

only give your hoses the desired 

length. They are also there for 

you when standard lengths and 

standard formats are insufficient. 

For example, when you need 

special connecting parts or specific 

shapes — or individual solutions 

which even the most extensive 

product range cannot offer. 

It is a matter of course for us to 

offer our products not only in the 

standard lengths but, upon request, 

in the length you require. At SHP 

Primaflex, subsequent processing
