Southland Conference, which began with an<br />
historic meeting of five institutions in Dallas in<br />
March 1963. It will join Oral Roberts <strong>University</strong>,<br />
which is joining the Southland as a non-football<br />
member in <strong>2012</strong>, as the league’s first private<br />

national playoffs in football,<br />

Four Southland Conference men’s basketball<br />
teams have advanced to the NCAA Sweet<br />
Sixteen, and the league has sent a women’s<br />
basketball team to the NCAA Final Four. The<br />
Southland has produced numerous major<br />
league baseball players, including 25 draft<br />
choices in 2011. Southland softball teams have<br />
defeated nationally-ranked teams every year<br />
since 1995, and the league<br />
has produced a women’s<br />
volleyball NCAA Final<br />
Four participant.<br />
Track and field<br />
individuals have<br />
won a combined 32<br />
NCAA championships.<br />
The Southland has<br />
produced two top-10<br />
national NCAA team<br />
finishes in men’s golf since<br />
2006.<br />
“HBU fans are going to<br />
really enjoy following our<br />
conference,” said Southland Commissioner<br />
Tom Burnett. “It’s a fun,<br />
yet tough, league. The competitiveness<br />
