The Awana brand, which comprise three beautifully designed<br />

resort hotels in Malaysia achieved a higher overall average<br />

occupancy rate <strong>of</strong> 65% in 2006 (2005: 61%).<br />

Awana <strong>Genting</strong> Highlands Golf & Country Resort<br />

(“Awana <strong>Genting</strong>”)<br />

Awana <strong>Genting</strong> is a cool refreshing five-star highlands resort<br />

surrounded by natural greenery at the mid-hill <strong>of</strong> <strong>Genting</strong><br />

Highlands Resort. With 430 well-appointed guest rooms,<br />

a grand ballroom and 17 function rooms in a relaxed and<br />

refreshing environment, the resort is ideal for meetings and<br />

functions.<br />

The resort <strong>of</strong>fers an 18-hole championship golf course, heated<br />

swimming pools and jacuzzi. Outdoor activities such as horse<br />

riding, jungle trekking, abseiling and rock climbing as well as<br />

outdoor facilities like longhouses and camping grounds enable<br />

guests to enjoy the scenic and natural beauty <strong>of</strong> the highlands.<br />

During the year, 300 <strong>of</strong> its existing hotel rooms were refurbished<br />

to provide a more comfortable stay for guests. Awana <strong>Genting</strong><br />

recorded an average occupancy <strong>of</strong> 61% in 2006 (2005: 63%).<br />

Awana Kijal Golf, Beach & Spa Resort (“Awana Kijal”)<br />

Awana Kijal, is a five-star holiday and convention beach<br />

resort in Kijal, Terengganu, <strong>of</strong>fering 343 rooms and suites with<br />

panoramic views <strong>of</strong> the South China Sea. The resort has the<br />

longest private beachfront in Peninsular Malaysia with 7.6km <strong>of</strong><br />

pristine sandy beach and an 18-hole championship golf course<br />

with magnificent view <strong>of</strong> the sea.<br />

Voted the No. 1 Resort In The East Coast by the Hospitality<br />

magazine for a record third consecutive year, this charming<br />

retreat <strong>of</strong>fers banquet, recreational and convention facilities,<br />

numerous water sports as well as a traditional Javaneseinspired<br />

spa called the Taman Sari Royal Heritage Spa<br />

Awana Kijal. The “Joy & Adventurous” programme organised<br />

by the resort’s team remained a popular weekend in-house<br />

entertainment performed for the guests.<br />

During the year, Awana Kijal was the host venue for some<br />

major events including the 10th Annual Leaders Consultation<br />

Malaysia–Brunei and the <strong>Genting</strong> Masters & Pro-am Golf<br />

Tournament 2006. Awana Kijal achieved a higher average<br />

occupancy rate <strong>of</strong> 68% in 2006 (2005: 64%).<br />

Awana Porto Malai, Langkawi (“Awana Porto Malai”)<br />

Awana Porto Malai is a popular holiday resort destination<br />

on the legendary island <strong>of</strong> Langkawi, Kedah. Located by the<br />

serene bay <strong>of</strong> Tanjung Malai, Awana Porto Malai is a 208-room<br />

Mediterranean “themed” seafront resort, <strong>of</strong>fering a panoramic<br />

view <strong>of</strong> the famed Dayang Bunting Island <strong>of</strong> Langkawi. The<br />

resort has an extensive range <strong>of</strong> facilities including a marina,<br />

food and beverage outlets, conference rooms, banquet halls<br />

and a picturesque 300-metre boardwalk. The resort’s swimming<br />

pool with a children fun pool is a favourite attraction for families.<br />

Awana Porto Malai caters to a wide segment <strong>of</strong> the market<br />

including tourists, company outings and meeting groups.<br />

During the year, Awana Porto Malai attracted close to 100,000<br />

tourists, <strong>of</strong> which about 30% are foreign visitors <strong>of</strong> various<br />

countries from regions such as the United Kingdom, Europe,<br />

North Asia and the Middle East.<br />

Proactive marketing and promotional efforts including tie-ups<br />

with airlines and other merchants have enabled the resort to<br />

achieve a higher occupancy rate <strong>of</strong> 68% in 2006 (2005: 51%).<br />

Awana Vacation Resorts Development Bhd (“AVRD”) is the<br />

<strong>Group</strong>’s timeshare operator with 5,684 timeshare members as<br />

at 31 December 2006.<br />

AVRD members are entitled to stay at the numerous hotels in<br />

<strong>Genting</strong> Highlands Resort and the Awana Hotels and Resorts<br />

at favourable rates, subject to booking conditions. AVRD<br />

is affiliated with Resorts Condominium International (RCI),<br />

which allows AVRD’s members the access to more than 3,800<br />

affiliated resorts in over 85 countries. AVRD has direct exchange<br />

with resorts in Europe, Australia, China, India and Thailand, in<br />

addition to <strong>Group</strong>’s resort properties. All room reservations are<br />

subject to availability.<br />
