This paper presents a successful experiment <strong>in</strong> the use of two <strong>in</strong>novative<br />

pedagogic methods – game theory and ‘reverse logic’ – to overcome<br />

problems <strong>in</strong> the susta<strong>in</strong>ed adoption of good practices <strong>in</strong> report<strong>in</strong>g conflict<br />

dur<strong>in</strong>g a workshop <strong>for</strong> broadcast journalists <strong>in</strong> Nepal organised by UN-<br />

ESCO and the Asia-Pacific Broadcast<strong>in</strong>g Union (ABU). <strong>The</strong> article outl<strong>in</strong>es<br />

how the strategy <strong>for</strong> us<strong>in</strong>g game theory and reverse logic was designed<br />

and implemented to allow discovery of pr<strong>in</strong>ciples and to promote longer<br />

term ownership of the journalistic values that are consistent with conflict<br />

resolution and peace-build<strong>in</strong>g. It goes on to describe workshop activities<br />

and relates them to issues <strong>in</strong> trans<strong>for</strong>mative learn<strong>in</strong>g and value education.<br />

It evaluates student reactions and engagement and the extent to which the<br />

use of game theory and reverse logic led to the adoption of desired values.<br />

Savyasaachi Ja<strong>in</strong> is a PhD student at the University of Westm<strong>in</strong>ster.<br />

His career as a practitioner spans newspapers, television current affairs<br />

and documentaries. He has also tra<strong>in</strong>ed journalists from across the world <strong>in</strong><br />

specialised workshops.<br />
