“The Kellogg-WHU Program truly offers the best of all worlds: The
renowned Kellogg brand coupled with the excellence in teaching from
the US side; the European business insight through the WHU faculty;
WHAT THE
PRESS SAYS:
WHAT EMPLOYERS
SAY:
WHAT ALUMNI SAY:
“The quaint town of Vallendar, perched on
the banks of the Rhine near Koblenz, is a
surprising place to find a business powerhouse
… WHU’s reputation owes much to
a worldclass Executive MBA Program, run
in partnership with the Kellogg School of
Management for the past 10 years… WHU’s
small size and private funding give it a flexibility
and ability to innovate that other more
wellknown academic institutions struggle
to attain.”
Financial Times Europe, October 2008
“The Executive MBA Program allows our
experienced managers to further develop
their management knowledge and skills
without interrupting their career – and everything
learned on the program they can
immediately apply to our business reality,
thus enhancing their own performance and
that of the company.”
Prof. Dr. Paul Achleitner, Member of the Board of
Management, Allianz SE
“My EMBA has definitely helped me to grow
my general management perspective. The
program provided me with great tools to
face the challenges of an entrepreneur and
of managing in a corporate environment,
both during growth as well as in the current
crises. The network was a great source for
ideas and knowhow as we planned and
executed a leveraged buyout and following
M&A and internationalization activities.”
FranzJoseph Miller, Chairperson of the Board of
Directors, time:matters Holding GmbH, EMBA 2001
“While many EMBA programs flaunt their
emphasis on teamwork, few schools get
students working together quite the way
Kellogg does. Participants grow extremely
close, learning each other’s strengths and
weaknesses.”
BusinessWeek, November 2007
“EDF has long been using Executive MBA
Programs as a successful development track
for high potential managers. Many have
graduated already from the KelloggWHU
Executive MBA Program which has given
them a truly global perspective of business
and prepared them excellently for broader
leadership functions in a fast growing international
energy company.”
David Jestaz, Senior VP, Director EDF Corporate
University
“My time at WHU immensely impacted me
as a person. I feel that the understanding that
I developed during the study of European
cultures and economics course has made
me a better person. It will improve my working
relationships with my coworkers and
has empowered me to deal with diversity.
WHU’s location and culture uniquely position
it to be able to tackle such complicated
and sensitive subjects. There is no better
location for this experience. Thank you for
being such a kind host.”
“There are very few opportunities to have a transformational experience
during your professional career – and to immediately apply what one
learns when back in the office the following day. During the Kellogg-
WHU EMBA Program, I learned how to excel as a part of a team,
developed my managerial skills, and created a great network. This not
only expanded my horizons and deepened my expertise, it enhanced
my effectiveness as a senior manager.”

“At Kellogg-WHU, I was impressed by the teaching methodology;
the quality of the international faculty; and the diversity of my peers’
profiles. The program brought together the most diverse professional
backgrounds you can imagine; as well as the most various national,
ethnic, cultural and educational backgrounds. Very interestingly,
everyone had room to express their personality to the fullest in the
course of our studies and I was able to apply my knowledge to my
daily business from the start.”

14
Your Personal Development –
Our Full Concentration
Team leadership is an essential success factor for managers in any organization – small,
public or private. As managing skills no longer imply command and control but, instead,
motivate and communicate, becoming deeply aware of one’s personal characteristics is
key for successfully working with and leading others. We take it seriously as well.
PROFILING AND
COACHING
360° FEEDBACK
INDIVIDUAL COACHING
LIFO ® (Life Orientation) is a psychometric tool which has been used by managers
worldwide for over 30 years. By identifying your most and least preferred
behavior, the tool enables you to recognize how you interact with others and,
based on these findings, suggests techniques to develop effective teamwork
and communication methods. Offered and analyzed from a certified trainer
and internationally experienced Human Resources expert, this profile and sub-
sequent coaching assist the candidate in working with the assigned study groups
during the program – and with colleagues in the workplace at any time.
In an atmosphere of mutual trust, the open feedback of your peers is a revealing
process in continuing the journey from the original self-assessment. Under
the guidance of an expert in Human Resources Management, students have
the opportunity to obtain feedback from group peers, as well as those outside
of the program, if wished. This step in the personal development process
assists the participant to evaluate how effective methods suggested as a result
of LIFO ® and coaching are – and provides a secure arena to amend behavior,
if necessary.
Clearly, personal development is just that – personal. During this stage of the
process, participants benefit from skilled and certified coaches experienced
with issues that face the management world. Students delve further into themselves
to develop a framework to move forward individually while leading others.
As the coaches also come from various business and cultural milieus, they are
best suited to guide candidates – regardless of background.

Your Global Network –
Our International Alumni
The Kellogg-WHU Alumni benefit from the best of both
worlds, as evidenced by their strong allegiance to both
schools and to one another. With over 50,000 graduates
in over 90 countries, program participants and alumni
have full access to both the Kellogg Alumni Network
(www.alumni.Kellogg.northwestern.edu) as well as the
InPraxi Association (www.in-praxi.org), the award-winning
WHU Alumni Network recognized as one of the best
in Germany. Whether returning to campus to speak at
various conferences or interview future program candi-
dates, organizing and attending alumni events globally,
or supporting fellow alumni with networking and career
development, the former students repeatedly show their
dedication to continuing the “Program Spirit” wherever
and whenever possible.
EMBA 2009
“In a world-class program like Kellogg-WHU one expects and receives
outstanding faculty, international locations, up-to-date facilities, etc. But
for me, the real and lasting benefit of the program was the spirit and
the attitude of all the people you meet around the globe. The time at
Kellogg-WHU was so rich of inspiring experiences and full of excellent
classes that the inevitable long study hours and reading of the comprehensive
course materials were not only a performance of duty. The structure
of the schedule does not only allow you to continue your professional
but also your private life. The inspiration and motivation I gained
from the program supported our wish to start a family. My son was
born two months before graduation and I am thankful and fulfilled to
be able to have both – a Kellogg-WHU EMBA and a wonderful family.”

Your Teachers – Our Commitment
Faculty in the Kellogg-WHU Executive MBA Program are drawn from the Kellogg global
network and WHU. This guarantees excellent academic credentials, veteran experience
in executive education and diverse business knowledge. Additionally, top industry and
civil leaders, among others, regularly share their knowledge and discuss their experiences
with our EMBA students. The teaching methodology is a unified blend of classroom
learning, case studies, group work, individual assignments, simulations and debate of
real-life business problems.
Globalization forces companies to restructure the configuration
of location of value chain activities and the governance
mode of value chain activities. Companies have to decide if to
make or to buy their products and where. As a consequence
they have to come up with global location and sourcing strategies.
The course addresses the strategic decision-making
process as well as the managerial issues of formulation and
implementation of global location and sourcing strategies.
The increasing value percentage of purchased goods, the
opening up of global markets, and the growing necessity to
collaborate with suppliers already in the early phases of new
product development underline supply management’s enormous
leverage effect on overall company success. Supply
management has thus become a key element in order to
