Musicians of all ages are invited to play in the <strong>San</strong> <strong>Juan</strong> <strong>College</strong>’s Summer Band<br />
program. This begins Wednesday, June 5, at 6 p.m., and will meet through August 9. The<br />
band will rehearse each Wednesday, from 6 – 9 p.m. They will perform several c<strong>on</strong>certs<br />
around the Farmingt<strong>on</strong> area. Allowances are made for family travel plans.<br />
The class can be taken for credit or n<strong>on</strong>-credit. High school students can register<br />
for n<strong>on</strong>-credit classes through the Community Learning Center by calling 566-3214.<br />
Those who are taking the class for credit must have earned <strong>their</strong> high school diploma<br />
or GED, and may register for MUSI 180-001 <strong>on</strong>line at www.sanjuancollege.edu, in<br />
Admissi<strong>on</strong>s or at the first rehearsal.<br />

Share your musical expressi<strong>on</strong> with the <strong>San</strong> <strong>Juan</strong> <strong>College</strong> Summer Orchestra, which<br />
begins Tuesday, June 18, at 6:30 p.m., and will meet through August 8. The orchestra<br />
rehearses each Tuesday, from 6:30 – 9 p.m. The schedule is relaxed and allows for<br />
family summer travel plans.<br />

Three artists combine <strong>their</strong> different talents, skills<br />
and techniques for a show that will range from prints, paintings and encaustic<br />
paint works. Encaustic paints are made from beeswax, dammar tree resin<br />
and pigments to create various colors. It is applied in a liquid state, hardens<br />
almost immediately and additi<strong>on</strong>al layers are “burned” in with heat. Join us<br />

Humanities Balc<strong>on</strong>y Gallery<br />
<strong>San</strong>dra Humphries presents her series of all <strong>on</strong>e-of-a-kind original paintings in<br />
this series called M<strong>on</strong>otypes. Each m<strong>on</strong>otype starts as a painting <strong>on</strong> a metal<br />
plate before being sent through a press, transferred to a drum and printed<br />
<strong>on</strong>to paper. Humphries draws color texture and shape inspirati<strong>on</strong>s from years<br />

Fran Mayfield and Stephen Unger Art Exhibit<br />

Henders<strong>on</strong> Fine Arts Center Gallery<br />
Fran Mayfield and Stephen Unger will present <strong>their</strong> series of paintings that will<br />
feature plein air (in the open air or outdoor painting) landscapes. Unger says<br />
his pieces are “c<strong>on</strong>veying a moment in time and place that the pers<strong>on</strong> can<br />
feel a part of.” Mayfield has begun to experiment with the acrylic medium and<br />
hopes to speak about the world in her own voice through her works. Join us<br />

A marine biologist when few women dared to even<br />
tread water, Rachael Cars<strong>on</strong>’s lifel<strong>on</strong>g love of nature<br />
and science led to research <strong>on</strong> how unc<strong>on</strong>trolled<br />
chemical use devastated wildlife and food sources.<br />
Her best-selling book <strong>on</strong> the topic, Silent Spring,<br />
detailed this devastati<strong>on</strong> and led to the eventual<br />
ban <strong>on</strong> the use of DDT in the United States. Free.<br />
