Dear Trinity family, 

We have had some confusion recently about things 

going on at Trinity and I would like to take this time 

to explain some of the day to day things and bring 

everyone up to speed on what to expect in the coming 

months. 

Your Vestry along with the worship committee has 

been working very hard on many projects and 

schedules at the Church. Stained glass windows are 

being restored and others that are not going to be used 

will be carefully stored at the Church for possible 

future use. It will take several months but in the end 

will be wonderful to have them restored to their 

original beauty! We are installing new efficient toilets 

and a special water meter for outside watering use to 

help control our high monthly bills. 

In regards to our worship schedule for the next five 

months we are having Dr. Val Fargo conduct one or 

two services each month with Fr. Chuck Curtis taking 

over the other services and once a month our very 

capable Trinity worship leaders, Jett Whitehead, 

Monica Borrello, Steve Beckert, and Nancy Mayhew 

will be leading us in worship with Dr Val preaching 

per the Bishop Todd’s request. We have our team in 

place to visit those who are shut in or at the hospital or 

nursing homes. If there is someone who you feel 

needs our help please let the office know. 

We have hired a new office person and she is starting 

on the 22nd of August. Deb has been helping out until 

the new person is ready to fly solo along with help 

from Steve Beckert. We are very grateful to have Deb 

help in this transition period right now, when you see 

her please give her your thanks. 

The search process for our next Rector is going well 

and I have been talking with Bishop Todd and his 

assistant Rev. Elsa weekly, and they are working as 

we speak, getting possible names together for us to 

interview in the coming months. We have had much 

to do lately but I am confident that we are on the right 

track and will have success soon. I ask that you 

continue your support, not only with your financial 

church contributions but your regular attendance in 

church to show support for our team.

several times a year for St. Paul’s Sunday feeding 

program. 

The next time Trinity will help is Sunday September 

25 th and Nancy Mayhew who heads up this wonderful 

outreach ministry for Trinity could use your help. 

Nancy needs volunteers to deliver and serve the meal 

on Sunday September 25 th and she also needs cooks 

to prepare the meal on Saturday September 24 th at 

9:00am here in Trinity’s kitchen. 

If you can find the time to help and would like the 

satisfying rewards of serving Christ in a greatly 

needed outreach ministry please call Nancy Mayhew

at 4:00 pm. Our topic will be the book of Genesis, 

and we will use the resource In the Beginning: 

Perspectives on Genesis as our study guide. This 

study looks at major themes in Genesis such as 

creation, sin, promise, sacrifice, righteousness, and 

providence. There will be four to five pages of 

reading as preparation for each session. 

We will meet in the Guild Room on Tuesdays from 

4:00 – 5:30 pm from September 20 to mid-November. 

Cost for the study guides is $6, and they are available 

in the church office. 

They come……some come every Sunday to share a 

meal with their friends…..some come to find a moment 

of peace in their troubled lives…..but they all come to 

Trinity’s Food of Faith Sunday meal because they 

have a need 

Food of Faith – Trinity Episcopal Church 

June & July FOF Report to the vestry. 

During the months of June and July we served 1,060 

meals. It is interesting to note that Mother’s Day did 

not affect us, but Fathers Day did, we were down in 

numbers by fifty people. The heat is really starting to 

affect the people, as we have a lot of people who walk 

and ride bikes to the church. 

The new starting time is working really well, all the 

churches really appreciate getting done an hour earlier. 

Also everyone appreciates the summer procedures 

(paper plates, and plastic silverware) it also helps with 

heat in the church by not using the dishwasher, this of 

course saves water as well. 

The church’s that served during June and July were St 

James, First Presbyterian women groups, St. Boniface, 

Unionville Moravian, Salvation Army, Trinity, First 

Presbyterian Deacons, St. Mary’s. All the churches did 

amazing jobs, and our thanks and blessing go out to 

them. 

The next time Trinity has FOF is Sunday Aug. 14 th , we 

are planning to serve pizza. This turns out be one of 

our cheapest meals, due to the great discount from 

Hungry Howie. 

We have had a number of new churches starting to 

visit on Sunday to see how we are doing things. We 

welcome them and hope to have them join us next 

year. We have 23 churches that participate and 

welcome more. Thanks everyone for your help.

THREE CHOIRS FESTIVAL 

Three area church choirs will join for a Three Choirs 

Festival on Saturday, September 24, 2011. The choirs 

from St. John’s Episcopal Church in Midland, The 

First Congregational Church in Saginaw, and Trinity 

Episcopal Church in Bay City, will present a Hymn 

Festival featuring the hymns of David Hurd. The 

festival will begin at 5:00 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal 

Church Bay City. 

David Hurd, born in 1950, is Professor of Sacred 

Music and Director of Chapel Music at General 

Theological Seminary in New York City and Music 

Director of the Church of the Holy Apostles in New 

York. His ―Intercession Mass‖ and ―A New Plainsong 

Mass‖ are used by congregations across the United 

States. Hurd has over 150 choral and organ works in 

print and his compositions have appeared in numerous 

hymnals and recordings in both the United States and 

England. 

Dr. Hurd attended Manhattan’s High School of Music 

and Art, the Julliard School, and Oberlin College. He 

is also widely recognized as one of the foremost 

church musicians and concert organists in the country, 

with a long list of awards, prizes, honors, and 

achievements to his credit. Hurd embraces his African 

-American heritage in his compositions and career as a 

classical organist. 

The three choirs will prepare all of the hymns by Dr. 

Hurd that appear in The Hymnal 1982, the primary 

hymnal of The Episcopal Church. Members of the 

audience will be invited to sing with the choirs. Dr. 

Hurd's settings are distinctive among the repertoire of 

hymnody. The program will also include several 

psalm settings for cantor and congregation as well as 

hymn harmonizations and organ solo repertoire by Dr. 

Hurd. 

Some of the hymns being sung include, ―Jesus Calls 

Me‖, ―Christ Mighty Savior‖, ―A Stable Light is 

Lighted‖, ―He is the Way‖, and ―Creating God Your 

Fingers Trace‖. 

Choir directors Dennis Van Koevering from Midland, 

Nicholas Schmelter from Saginaw, and Robert 

Sabourin from Bay City, are looking forward to 

combining their individual ensembles for this event. 

Schmelter will be the organist for the festival and 

Sabourin will conduct the choirs. 

The program is open to the public free of charge. 

Trinity is located at 815 N. Grant Street in downtown 

Bay City. Barrier free access is available off of the 

parking lot on the west side of the building. The 

church is also air conditioned.
