Operational Needs
Introduction to TATEM
• Technologies and Techniques for nEw Maintenance
Concepts
• TATEM aims to tackle the 20% and 50% reduction in
MRC by improving Aircraft Operability…
• “Aircraft Operability is an aggregate measure of the
aircraft's availability, operational reliability and
maintenance related costs…”
• What is innovative about TATEM
• Scope + integration + prognostics = a revolutionary effect…
Operational Needs
Understanding the operational needs
1. Punctuality: ensure scheduled revenue flights
CHALLENGE: Avoid operational interruptions due to aircraft failures,
damages or servicing tasks
2. Higher utilization: maximize the time where the
product can be operated
CHALLENGE: Avoid down-times where the aircraft cannot be
operated due to maintenance
3. Lower costs: minimize Maintenance Related Costs
Operational Needs
Higher Utilization
•More robustness against defects
•Pro-active maintenance
•More flexible maintenance scheduling
Punctuality
•More robustness against defects
•No maintenance during turn times
•Rapid ground servicing
Operational Needs
Top-Level Requirements (TLR)
• 30 TLRs were defined, from which 19 are related to Health
Management
• TLRs provide a guidance framework to the research
Strands
• TLRs can be used as theoretical inputs (virtual research
results) to the benefits assessment so as to know what
could be the ultimate achievable benefits if TLRs were fully
fulfilled by the project
Remark: as our understanding of TATEM concepts
continuously improves, some TLRs will be revised
where appropriate
