Members Receive Awards in Annual Exhibition “Peoples, Places, and Pets” were on exhibit June 12 to July 23 at The Art Center. Fifty-Four entries included paintings created in pastels, acrylics, watercolor and oil; scupltures and woodcarvings; photography; and mixed media. A picinic reception was held Saturday, June 12th. We thank Rose Anderson for the use of her gas grill and Leroy Shiebley for being our grill master for the evening. Jonathan grew up in Dillsburg, PA, and was accepted into the Harrisburg Arts Maganet School his senior year. He went on to study at the Maryland Institute, College of Art, then to Kutztown University where he received his BFA. He is the youngest member of the Seven Lively Artists and was part of their 50 year retrospective exhibition at the Cumberland County Historical Society. He showed with them again in the Summer of 2010 at the Cape Cod Museum of Art and the Pennsylvania Governor’s Residence. His work has been exhibited at Gallery 30 in Gettysburg, F.A.N. Gallery in Philadelphia, the Art Association of Harrisburg, Gallery Blu, City Art Gallery in York, and many others. He recently enjoyed international exposure when one of his Cape Cod paintings was published in the June/July 2009 issue of “International Artist” as a finalist in a world-wide competition. His Skyline series was recently selected for solo exhibitions at the Montpelier Arts Center near Richmond, VA in August of 2011 and the Delaplaine Visual Art Education Center in Frederick, MD in December of 2011. The exhibit will travel around the Commonwealth; dates, times and opening reception to be announced soon. Paul Saberin won “Best of Show” for his sculpture “Totem” at the Art Association of Harrisburg’s 82nd Annual International Juried Exhibition. It had a shotgun start, with a scramble format. Thirtytwo golfers participated in the 3rd outing hosted by our organization. The outing netted The Art Center $2,244. Thanks to our 2010 Golf Outing Committee and Volunteers: Jim Albert, Co-Chair, Herb Gaither, Co-Chair, Barry Cassell, Joy Bochniak, Rose Anderson, Wayne Martin, and Madeline Reilly. 2010 Gala Report An Evening with the Italian Masters Saturday, May 15th marked the fourth annual Art Center Fundraising Gala. An Evening with the Italian Masters, showcased fantastic Italian cuisine prepared by Chef Tom Robey, Doris Risser, Christie Swartz, and Barry Cassel. A wine tasting featured Italian varieties poured by Chrissy Smoleski of DeGarcia Wines. Guests were entertained by Accordionist Edward Kaminski and the Andy Angel Band. The Art Center looked beautiful thanks to the work of our volunteers and the centerpieces donated by Garden Bouquet of Mechanicsburg. Photographs by Lynette Giblin and artwork from Pure Custome Framing established an elegant atmosphere of Italy. Karl Foster attended as Michangelo and created a masterful rendition of a figure orginally drawn by the Italian artist. A highlight of the event was the live auction with professional auctioneer John Ensminger. Guests also enjoyed playing games of chance with the help of volunteers David Depoi, Tom Walko, Bob Young, and Mark Allen. The Gala would not have been possible without the tireless efforts of the committee lead by Tina Antonicelli, chair. Her posse of helpers were: Delphine Albert, Joanne Allen, Liz Young, Rose Anderson, Christie Swartz, Doris Risser, Jeannine Swartz and Annie Weaver.
