Based within the Institute of Neurological Sciences at the Southern General Hospital, you will join the movement disorder team,<br />
which has research interests in the diagnostic <strong>and</strong> treatment aspects of Parkinson’s disease. The <strong>Glasgow</strong> Movement Disorder<br />
Service is leading the UK multicentre study referred to as PRoBaND, the Parkinson’s Repository of Biosamples <strong>and</strong> Network<br />
Datasets, which involves around 30 centres around the United Kingdom <strong>and</strong> is a natural history study of early <strong>and</strong> young onset<br />
Parkinson’s disease patients <strong>and</strong> their relatives, with a genetic focus <strong>and</strong> biosampling of blood for longer term storage. In<br />
collaboration with centres in Newcastle, Cardiff, London <strong>and</strong> Bristol, <strong>Glasgow</strong> developed the successful bid for grant funding of<br />
1.6 million pounds over 5 years as the initial phase of this project. The project is in the set-up phase having already received<br />
ethics approval <strong>and</strong> now entering the contract exchange stage with the national launch meeting scheduled for September 2011.<br />
You will be appointed as a Clinical Research Fellow in Movement Disorders <strong>and</strong> will participate in largely clinical based research.<br />
There is a commitment to participation in the movement disorder clinic involving patients with Parkinson’s disease, dystonia <strong>and</strong><br />
similar conditions, <strong>and</strong> in particular the clinical assessment <strong>and</strong> scoring of patients for inclusion in the PRoBaND study. This will<br />
be undertaken in the Institute of Neurological Sciences as well as in the joint clinics in Lanarkshire. As a primarily researchbased<br />
post, there will be a particular focus within the research for work which the successful c<strong>and</strong>idate will develop into<br />
submissions for national <strong>and</strong> international meetings, publication in peer reviewed literature, <strong>and</strong> there will be an opportunity to<br />
