PREVENT A FALL<br />
According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention,<br />
falls are the most common cause of injuries to older adults.<br />
Make your home safer<br />
• Remove things you can trip over from stairs and<br />
places where you walk.<br />
• Remove small throw rugs or use double sided tape to<br />
keep the rugs from slipping.<br />
• Use non-slip mats in the bathtub and on shower floors.<br />
Improve the lighting in your home.<br />
Have handrails put in on all staircases.<br />
Wear slippers or shoes that will not slide both inside<br />
and outside the house.<br />
While in the hospital:<br />
• Keep your glasses, cane or walker within reach.<br />
• Wear slippers or shoes that will not slide.<br />
• If something spills on the floor, call us immediately to<br />
wipe it up.<br />
• Call for help when you want to get out of bed or<br />
want to use the bathroom.<br />
• If you get dizzy or<br />
your legs feel weak:<br />
STOP!<br />
SHOUT for HELP!<br />
EASE YOURSELF<br />
SLOWLY to the FLOOR!<br />
