Multi-Stream Analyzer (MSA)
XRF Elemental Slurry Analyzer
The Thermo Scientific Multi-Stream
Analyzer (MSA) provides accurate, fast,
cost-effective elemental analysis of up
to 12 slurry streams. The information
provided by the MSA allows plant
operators to follow process trends in
real time, making manual or automatic
changes to the process possible.
This Analyzer enables improvements
in product quality and metal recovery.
The Thermo Scientific Multi-Stream Analyzer
(MSA) provides simultaneous analysis of up
to 20 elements and percent solids. Elements
in the periodic table from Ca and higher can
be analyzed using the X-ray Fluorescence
(XRF) technique, which is a proven and
robust technology for plant environments.
The MSA can measure from 12 to 18
streams that are kept completely separate
in their own analysis tanks, moving the
probe from zone to zone. This overall design
philosophy provides the following benefits:
• No additional multiplexer or
de-multiplexer is required.
• Low slurry head loss of less than 1,000 mm
across the MSA, which combined with a
sensible location, dramatically reduces
the need for sample pumps.
• The standard 300 mm wide analysis tank
consists of a de-aeration zone, followed
by an agitated analysis zone. It can handle
flows up to approximately 12 m 3 /hr.
Larger width tanks up to 600 mm are
available, which means the full flow of
some process streams can be analyzed,
eliminating the need for primary samplers
and providing enhanced accuracy.
• Assay updates are fast (seven minutes
total cycle for six streams).
• Cross cut metallurgical samplers are
located at the outlet of each analysis tank
for calibration and process control samples.
When used with full flow or a representative
primary sampler (e.g., the Thermo Scientific
SamStat), the MSA can collect shift
composite samples for metallurgical
accounting, providing cost savings.
