Placement<br />
The department<br />
F1 <strong>Adult</strong> <strong>Psychiatry</strong><br />
The Tindal centre provides inpatient services to<br />
adults of working age across Buckinghamshire<br />
It is a psychiatric inpatient hospital based in<br />
Aylesbury and is led by a team of 9 consultants .<br />
The junior doctors are divided into two teams<br />
consisting of an SHO and an F1 who are<br />
assigned to four consultants per team .<br />
The two team’s catchment areas are essentially<br />
divided into North and South Buckinghamshire.<br />
The type of work to expect and<br />
learning opportunities<br />
During a normal working day the junior doctors<br />
attend to any acute medical and psychiatric<br />
issues on the ward, as well as any jobs from the<br />
ward review. Each team has 4 ward reviews a<br />
week<br />
In addition each team is expected to clerk new<br />
patients. This includes a full psychiatric history<br />
and mental state examination as well as a<br />
physical examination and blood tests.<br />
Detailed discharge summaries are also<br />
completed by the junior doctors.<br />
Learning opportunities<br />
Improving verbal communication with both<br />
patients and staff and written communication in<br />
the form of clinical note taking.<br />
Psychodynamic psychotherapy teaching takes<br />
place on Tuesday mornings.<br />
One hour of supervision with clinical supervisor<br />
once a week.<br />
Where the placement is based<br />
Wednesday afternoon teaching consists of case<br />
presentations, journal club and guest speakers.<br />

Mon: Ward round am and pm<br />
Tues: Psychotherapy teaching am,<br />
ward round pm<br />
Wed: afternoon teaching<br />
Thurs: Ward round am<br />
Fri: Admin and ward work<br />
Sat: N/A<br />
Sun: N/A<br />
In between ward rounds and teaching Doctors<br />
are expected to undertake admin tasks such as<br />
discharge summaries and complete ward work.<br />
On call requirements: As this is an unbanded job<br />
FY1s are not included on the on-call rota<br />

with <strong>Oxford</strong> University and <strong>Oxford</strong> Brookes<br />
University<br />
The post will be based at the Tindal Centre in<br />
Aylesbury, which provides an extensive range of<br />
secondary services for the county of<br />
Buckinghamshire.<br />
