COMMANDER’S COMMENTS
Greetings Legionnaires:
At the next post meeting on July 20th, the
membership will be voting on a change to the
Legion By-Laws. The current law states that
the “Executive Committee” members can only
serve two consecutive terms. The proposed change would
change “Executive Committee” to “Executive Board”.
Also, there will be installation of Post 92 officers by the
new 1st District Commander, Gary Weaver, at the July
Post meeting.
On Saturday, August 7th, the Olmsted County Fair will
have a Veterans’ Appreciation Day. The day will start at 10
AM with a flag raising ceremony by joint Color Guards from
various veteran organizations. Admission to the Fair will be
free to all Veterans and members of the Armed Forces.
This also includes Free Admission for family members
(grand parents / grand kids etc.). All you have to do is show
your Legion, SAL, or Auxiliary membership card, or proof
of service. There will be free parking and shuttle buses at
the Mayo High School. From 11 AM to 2 PM, VFW Post
1215 and Post 92 will be serving free hamburgers and hot
dogs for veterans and their families.
If you know of a member who is in the hospital or who
has died, please contact our Post 92 Administrative
Assistant, Nicolee Holmgren, at 252-1659. She can then
enter their name under Sick Call or Taps on our web page
at www.post92.org. Also, if you are planning on moving or
have moved, please contact us with your new mailing
address so we can make sure you continue getting your
monthly Bugle newsletter.

AUXILIARY PRESIDENT’S NOTES
This is my last newsletter I will write to you. I
want to thank all of the officers and chairmen
who have helped this year, and to the
Legionnaires and Commander, Joe Brown.
Congratulations to the newly elected officers
for the year 2010-2011 who are the following: President-
Sharon Kingsley, 1st Vice President- Rita Anderson, 2nd
Vice President - Donna Byer, Secretary - Donna Byer,
Chaplain - Rita Anderson, Treasurer - Tammy Grendahl,
Historian - Evelyn Lyke, Sergeant-at-Arms - Shirley Oberle,
Executive Committee - Mary Oviatt and Karen Riess,
Junior Past President - Evelyn Lyke. The newly elected 1st
District President JoEllen Isbenberg installed the officers.
Let’s give the new officers a lot of help during the year.
The Cook Book will go on sale at the time of
Department Convention, for $10 each. If you would like to
have one, see one of our members.
Remember, the Department Convention will be July
21-24. We still need help. See any one of the following:
Evelyn Lyke, Shirley Oberle, Sharon Kingsley. If there is
anyone who would like to bake bars or cookies, we
need them for Sat. July 24th for the Open House of the
newly elected Department President and Commander.
Please bring them down at about noon on Sat. July 24th.
Welcome to the new Auxiliary members to Unit 92,
Linda Logan, Teri Moger, Holly Jones, and Katheen
Santoro, who transfered from Utah, and to the new Junior
member, McKenna Dukart. Welcome.
The following members were elected at District
Convention, Karen Riess - 2nd Vice President, Sharon
Kingsley - 1st Chair of Executive Board, Shirley Oberle -
Sgt-at-Arms, and Evelyn Lyke - Color Bearer.
We do not hold Auxiliary meetings in July or August.
But, the Executive Committee will meet on Tues. August
17th at 7 PM.
Get-Well wishes to all those recuperating and sincere
condolences to The American Legion Families who have
lost love ones. As always, remember to keep our troops
in your thoughts and prayers.

KOREAN WAR VETERANS CLUB
So often in writing this Korean Vet information I think
back to how challenging it was to write informational letters
to family and friends while we were in Korea, or wherever
assigned. The guy that walked away from mail-call without
a letter or package wished for the support of those back
home. Yes, most of us were young, alone with our feelings,
but had to get the job done and we did our best!
A fantastic parade and turn-out of towns people in Pine
Island this past weekend. Sixteen of our Korean War Vets
were on the trailer, in the tow vehicle, or participated
directly in the parade. Every one of the Vets expressed
gratitude for the feelings shown by the Pine Island
people. The thanks and applause was overwhelming and
so much appreciated. Pine Island is the home town of our
Commander, Cy Kubista, which made it even better.
For any of you Korean Vet members who may be ill or
need a call, please know we start out each Monday
morning breakfast thinking of you and Cy starts out with
a request for sick call. I just finished a phone call to a
member who had surgery and I expressed our need for
him to return in good health. We are our brothers’
keepers and as Vets, try to give more than we receive.
At this time Merle Peterson is on his way to Korea as a
guest of Korea and we wish him well. He did ask that I once
again mention to any of our Korean Vet members or others
that were in the Veteran supplement last year to get the
$15.00 to him to be included this year. The Veterans Day
insert November 2010 issue will be recognizing the 60th
anniversary of the Korean War and if you served in the
military any time from June 25th,1950 to January 31st,
1955 we want you included. If finances are a problem,
please make it known to Merle Peterson (1204 7th Ave NE
Rochester, MN 55906) or call him at 288-1043. Others will
gladly assist in the payment. We want you in the
supplement and many more than the 56 thus far signed up.
This past Monday, June 14th, Jessica Hansen and her
mother, Lorie, attended our breakfast meeting as guests.
At that time we made Jessica’s fiancé PATRICK ZEIGLER
an honorary member of our Korean War Veterans club.
Patrick was one of the shooting victims at Fort Hood and
is now being cared for at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester.
Jessica has been with Patrick almost every hour, over
several months, to assist him day to day in his recovery.
Jessica, we want you to know both of your families, and
Patrick are in our prayers.
Two other special guests attended the same day. Don
Meyer from Owatonna, MN and Dick Hanson from Las
Vegas, NV. We do welcome visitors to Rochester to come
and even join our club as members.

Dames:
What a beautiful summer we’re starting
to have. Hope all of you have a happy and
safe summer.
There will be a Grand Rendezvous in Grand Rapids,
July 30 - Aug. 1, 2010. Our Delegate is Shirley Oberle
and our Delegates at large are Rita Anderson, LaVonne
Skillestad, Barbara Stussy, and Evie Lyke.
Our National Rendezvous will be held in Springfield, IL,
Sept 7 - 14. There will be no Rendezvous in the month of
July. Our next one will be Aug. 10, 2010. There will be a
potluck. We will start at 6 PM and will have installation of
officers at that time.
Please keep in mind that we will no longer be serving
luncheons after the Rendezvous and Promenades.
Thank you ladies for all the past luncheons. They were
great and so are you.

NOTES OF THANKS
Carson Fossum of Century High School and Andrew
Lose of Lourdes High School were each awarded by The
American Legion Post 92, a 2010 Citizenship School
Award and Scholarship. The American Legion
Citizenship School Award places emphasis on the
qualities of Courage, Honor, Leadership, Patriotism,
Scholarship, and Service. Carson Fossum of Century
High School and Andrew Lose of Lourdes High School
were presented with their Citizenship Award certificates
and medals at their respective school’s awards
ceremonies. Carson said, “It was a great honor to be
allowed the privilege of walking in front of my class to
accept this award.” and “It [the certificate, medal] will
surely be displayed at my graduation party.” Andrew said,
“I would like to thank you for attending the Lourdes High
School Award Ceremony and for presenting me the
certificate, medal, and check given to me for the
American Legion School Award. I feel honored to be the
recipient of this award…”
Students and Staff of the following schools wish to
thank Post 92 for its continued support of the
Newspapers in Education Program. Students use the
Rochester Post-Bulletin Newspaper to find information
on anything from current events in their local community
and around the world, to History about Thomas Jefferson
and government. Thank you Post 92! from the following

BAR NOTES
Things are heating up outside, why not stop down to
cool off. Great drink specials all month long along with
some great entertainment. We’ll kick off the month with a
July 4th Independence Day celebration. On the 15th, the
Redhawks baseball team will be having a fundraiser
burger night. The Redhawks burger night fundraiser is
open to the public. The State Convention is the 22nd thru
the 24th. Also, the fish fry will continue on the 4th Friday
of the month thru the summer. The rest of the Fridays
we’ll have food being served, with Chef John deciding the
menu. The menu will be posted at the bar weekly. Have
a fun and safe 4th of July. No plans Stop in, the club will
be open from noon to 7 PM.
