VOLUNTEERS IN PROGRESS (VIP) JOB DESCRIPTION<br />

STUDENT DEVELOPMENT CENTRE, UWO<br />

INDIGENOUS SERVICES GUEST SERVICES<br />

ASSISTANT<br />

(1 position for Fall/Winter, 1 position for Summer)<br />

Indigenous <strong>Service</strong>s<br />

2-3 hrs/wk<br />

To attend to students and guests upon arrival. To respond to a<br />

wide variety of visitors questions and assist in filling out any<br />

necessary forms.<br />

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:<br />

1. Greet and assist students and guests upon arrival.<br />

2. Inform visitors of IS service, upcoming events, programs.<br />

3. Assist with print/fax/copy/scan and Toshiba maintenance/service calls.<br />

4. Build rapport with students to learn more about their needs.<br />

5. Maintain and assist students in the Learning Resource Centre/computer lab.<br />

6. Ensure IS <strong>Student</strong> Registrations are completed and up-to-date.<br />

7. Assist with the organization of events with IS staff.<br />

8. Record statistics for users of the Learning Resource Centre.<br />

9. Submit monthly volunteer log reports, a midterm feedback form, and a year-end program<br />

evaluation form for the VIP Program.<br />

10. Complete four mandatory HR training courses: WHMIS, Work Safety Orientation, Safe<br />

Campus, AODA.<br />

QUALIFICATIONS:<br />

1. Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.<br />

2. Demonstrates initiative, responsibility and enthusiasm.<br />

3. Problem solving abilities.<br />

4. Strong communication (attending, listening, speaking) and interpersonal skills.<br />

5. Must be people oriented.<br />

TRAINING<br />

• General Orientation to SDC and the VIP Program. (Required)<br />

• Health and Safety Training by Human Resources. (Required)<br />

• Specific training as arranged by Supervisor.<br />
