CEO COMMENT
A Game Changer – 100 years ago!
We all know and hear about how our modern
game is so different to 10 or 20 years
ago. How different is it to 100 years ago I
was at one of SAAFL’s founder clubs the
other day and whilst looking at a team photo
was approached by a knowledgeable club
member. The photo was a team shot from
the turn of the century set among gumtrees.
Club folk lore has it that the photo was the
original team of the club and was made up of
farm hands from the surrounding area who
were causing so much trouble in their
community one of the farmers formed a
football team to give them an interest. The
club mentored the players and the problems
the boys were causing in the local community
went away! A hundred years have passed
but the local football club still serves as a
terrific support mechanism for its loyal players.
It is still a community within a community
with lifelong friendships forged. Players
get their families and friends involved at the
club and often become officials and volunteers.
For many the club became part of
their lives for life! So what has changed
Well the farms have gone from our outer
metro areas but the teams haven’t! A player
from 100 years ago would be gob smacked
if they were able to observe a game today –
a safer game plan played; 2 field umpires;
Guernseys made from weird new material;
boots that are as light as a feather; players
wearing hair gel; media stories about the
game breaking on social media; teams
displayed on the internet; readers of this
article I’m certain can think of a dozen more
things that would get the attention of our
football time traveller.
FOXTALE HOUSEBOATS — EXCELLENT TIME TO BE ON THE RIVER
NAB INTRODUCER PROGRAM - The SA Community Football Board (CFB) has entered into an arrangement with one of
Australia’s leading banks, National Australia Bank Limited “NAB”, which will benefit leagues/clubs in being paid excellent
commission when ANYONE connected with your club refers a home or business loan.
NAB will pay a 0.4% commission to the nominated league/club for any loan referred to them from anyone who mentions their
club’s name during their loan application. For example, if a $250,000 is referred by ANYONE connected with your Club the
club will received commission of $1000 for on forwarding to your Club (A $400,000 Loan = $1600).
PLEASE NOTE
• Commission payments are made to the SA Community Football Department, and successful clubs will be notified by
memorandum and then invited to invoice the SACFL for the nominated amount.
• All applications must have at least one (1) face to face interview at a NAB branch, and the person MUST mention this program
and the club which the commission should be directed to at the initial meeting with NAB
• For full terms and conditions refer to Community Football Manager Glen Rosser – glenr@sacommunityfootball.com.au or by
calling (08) 8424 2212
