FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
North American International Livestock Exposition Dairy Goat Shows Scheduled For Nov. 8-10;
Show Name Changed to Honor Bill Turnquist
July 25, 2013 … Louisville, KY. North American International Livestock Exposition (NAILE)
officials announced that the Dairy Goat Division show will take place November 8, 9, and 10. The
event has been renamed the William “Bill” Turnquist Dairy Goat Show. The NAILE Executive
Committee took this action in order to honor the late William M. Turnquist, who passed away
early in 2013.
Turnquist served as the Dairy Goat Show superintendent through 2012. His volunteer
history with the Expo extends back to 1975 when he helped with the first-ever NAILE sheep
show. In 1988 he led the effort to bring a dairy goat event to the NAILE. Under his leadership the
dairy goat events continued to grow.
In 2013, classes for six breeds are offered: Alpine, Nubian, LaMancha, Oberhasli,
Saanen, and Toggenburg. Premiums and prizes will be in excess of $12,000. The shows are
sanctioned by the American Dairy Goat Association (www.adga.org).
The Dairy Goat Showmanship Contest takes place on Friday, Nov. 8 beginning at 6 pm.
Senior classes (ages13-18) are followed by Junior classes (ages 5-12).
The 40th Annual NAILE is produced by the Commonwealth of Kentucky at the Kentucky
Exposition Center in Louisville, Kentucky under the direction of the Kentucky State Fair Board.
