PROSPECTUS
The Congress
The first “Italian Congress on Ultrasound in Emergency and Critical Care Medicine“, named
also “1° Congresso Italiano di Ecografia Clinica in Emergenza-Urgenza e Terapia
Intensiva”, will be held in Milan on February 9-12, 2007, hosted by “Niguarda Ca’ Granda”
hospital and “S.S.U.Em. 118 – Milano” EMS, and endorsed by the major Italian & European
societies in ultrasound, primary, emergency and critical care medicine.
The congress represents also an International conference preparatory to the “3 rd World Congress
on Ultrasound in Emergency and Critical Care Medicine”, to be held in Paris, next June
(www.wcu2007.org).
From the 10-12 February 2007, within the “Fiera Milano City” congress facilities
(www.micmilano.it), the educational and scientific program will be developed through plenary and
parallel sessions, together with commercial exhibitions and demonstrations, addressed both to
primary, emergency and critical care physicians and nurses.
On the 9th of February afternoon, the program will embrace the congress opening ceremonies
and the “Founding Act” of the WINFOCUS world society (www.winfocus.org).
Based on the strength of the scientific and educational contents, representing the best and most
updated debate in emergency and critical care ultrasound, the congress is expected to attract
clinical staff and key decision makers who are utilising and recommending your products and
services throughout these fields.
The Network
The conference is promoted by a committed and transversal task-force of health professionals
and experts, composed by a variety of emergency medical and surgical specialists,
anaesthesiologists and intensivists, actively involved in the WINFOCUS network (“World
Interactive Network Focused on Critical UltraSound”; www.winfocus.org), which in June 2005 and
June 2006, respectively in Milan and New York, organized the first two editions of the “World
Congress on Ultrasound in Emergency and Critical Care Medicine”.
Next May the world congress will be held in Paris (www.wcu2007.org), followed by the UK edition
(London 2008) and the Australian one (Cairns 2009), where educational and research projects

will be presented together with an increasing number of “consensus-based” and “evidencebased”
guidelines.
The idea of an Italian conference was born within such a new and exciting International
framework, in collaboration with the SIUMB – Emergency Ultrasound Section (“Società Italiana di
Ultrasonologia in Medicina e Biologia”) and the French scientific society CEURF (“Cercle des
Echographistes d'Urgence et de Reanimation Francophones”).
It was actually developed in order to gather for the first time the widest number of national
experts, academics, professionals, focused on “point-of-care” ultrasound applications for the
acute and critical patients, both in intra-hospitals (emergency departments, peri-operative areas,
intensive and critical care services) and extra-hospital scenarios (HEMS/EMS, disasters, sports
medicine, battlefield, remote, austere and scarce-resource settings).
For the first time, then, a national Congress will convene investigators and participants from
around the country to discuss globally Emergency and Critical Care Ultrasound key topics. More
than 70 outstanding speakers, among the best investigators, academicians, health care
professionals on emergency ultrasound throughout Italy and Europe, will contribute to the
debate. We expect hundreds of registrants at the meeting, and they will provide further valuable
contributions.
The Program
In date 9 th February there will be a pre-congress forum and a ceremony where the attending
professionals plan to formalize WINFOCUS statute and society (legal founding act), strengthen
Italian network (together with the SIUMB Emergency Ultrasound Section), set up last details for
the 3 rd World meeting in Paris (organizing committees), open the Italian conference, finally
converging in to the evening gala dinner.
The true scientific and educational program will begin on the morning of the 10 th and cover 3 full
days until the afternoon of the 12 th . The conference will address the recent advances in point-ofcare
ultrasound, with its impact on the management of the acute and critical patients in
emergency and intensive care, both in the out-of-hospital and in-hospital scenarios.
The research program will mostly review problem-based applications in emergency departments,
peri-operative areas, and intensive care units.
It will also focus on cutting edge prehospital ultrasound applications, both in air and land-based
Emergency Medical Services, as well as in mass casualty events, war zones, peace-keeping
arenas, and remote areas, including tele-medicine technologies.
Participants will include particularly emergency physicians, emergency surgeons, intensivists and
anaesthesiologists, pediatricians, general practitioners, sport physicians, cardiologists and
radiologists, nurses and allied health personnel working in critical scenarios.
Vets will be involved as part of the research development core of the faculty, too.
The congress components will include a broad range of lectures, panel discussions, oral
communications, poster highlights, workshops, courses, symposia, and meet-the-expert seminars
in demonstrative thematic areas. Some of the these debates and educational events could be
directly sponsored by your company.

The Venue
The conference will be held at “Milano Convention Center” (Via Gattamelata 5, Gate 2, Milan,
Italy; www.micmilano.it), within one of the most famous European Fairs (Fiera Milano City). It
will include a wide Exhibition Area, allowing the conference organization to host exhibition booths
for several companies. The Exhibition will open Friday 10 February morning (during the Welcome
Reception) and close on Monday 12 February evening (please, see the attached program-atglance).
The facilities are excellent and during session breaks, the location of poster areas, snacks and
tea/coffee will encourage delegates to mingle with colleagues and company representatives in
