Re: Kaj Rydman - Candidate for AATB Treasurer
Dear Colleague,
My name is Kaj Rydman, Vice President of Operations for California Cryobank, the largest
reproductive tissue bank in the United States. I would like to introduce myself and tell you about why I
want to serve AATB as the next Treasurer.
Long term commitment
I have worked in tissue banking for the past 18 years, in an organization that has been continuously
accredited by AATB since 1988. I share the passion and commitment of AATB to promote safety,
quality and availability of cells and tissue.
Organizational Excellence
Over the past two decades, I have observed AATB develop as an organization and advocate for
quality and excellence in tissue banking. I have seen its role change with the increasing regulatory
challenges. To meet the goals of AATB's new five year strategic plan, it is important that the AATB
organizational structure is aligned with the strategic goals. As Treasurer, I will continue that work to
maximize AATB’s operational quality and efficiency, and continuing to develop an effective revenue
strategy for AATB.
Financial Excellence
It is critical that the membership fees, accreditation fees and other proceeds are put to effective use
for the benefit of the members and in support of the AATB goals. AATB needs appropriate reserves
for unforeseen events, but needs to also effectively manage these funds. When new expenses are
proposed, it is important that we address clearly where the funds come from to cover those expenses.
As the Chair of the AATB Finance Committee, I have worked with the Board and the staff to improve
our financial reporting and budgeting process and to make sure the organization continues to be on a
sound financial foundation. As the Treasurer, I will continue this work and help develop policies and
practices that adhere to these principles.

Qualification and Experience
Present Position/Experience
Vice President of Operations, California Cryobank, Inc. (CCB) 2006 -
Present: As VP Ops of CCB, I am responsible for all the regulated
operations from donor screening to processing of specimens to storage
to release and distribution of specimens.
President, California Cryobank Stem Cell Services 2001 - 2006: As
President of the Stem Cell Services division for CCB, I had the full
bottomline responsibility from revenue generation to operations.
Chief Financial Officer, California Cryobank 1994 - 2003: As CFO of
CCB, I was responsible for all financial and accounting activities, as well
as IT/MIS operations.
Education/Credentials:
Alumni of Helsinki School of Business and Economics (Finland), Masters Program in International
Marketing.

Chair, Finance Committee 2009-present;
Member, Finance Committee, 2007-present.
