Dear Colleague,<br />
My name is Kaj Rydman, Vice P<strong>re</strong>sident <strong>of</strong> Operations for California Cryobank, the largest<br />
<strong>re</strong>productive tissue bank in the United States. I would like <strong>to</strong> introduce myself and tell you about why I<br />
want <strong>to</strong> serve <strong>AATB</strong> as the next T<strong>re</strong>asu<strong>re</strong>r.<br />
Long term commitment<br />
I have worked in tissue banking for the past 18 years, in an organization that has been continuously<br />
acc<strong>re</strong>dited by <strong>AATB</strong> since 1988. I sha<strong>re</strong> the passion and commitment <strong>of</strong> <strong>AATB</strong> <strong>to</strong> promote safety,<br />
quality and availability <strong>of</strong> cells and tissue.<br />
Organizational Excellence<br />
Over the past two decades, I have observed <strong>AATB</strong> develop as an organization and advocate for<br />
quality and excellence in tissue banking. I have seen its role change with the inc<strong>re</strong>asing <strong>re</strong>gula<strong>to</strong>ry<br />
challenges. To meet the goals <strong>of</strong> <strong>AATB</strong>'s new five year strategic plan, it is important that the <strong>AATB</strong><br />
organizational structu<strong>re</strong> is aligned with the strategic goals. As T<strong>re</strong>asu<strong>re</strong>r, I will continue that work <strong>to</strong><br />
maximize <strong>AATB</strong>’s operational quality and efficiency, and continuing <strong>to</strong> develop an effective <strong>re</strong>venue<br />
strategy for <strong>AATB</strong>.<br />
Financial Excellence<br />
It is critical that the membership fees, acc<strong>re</strong>ditation fees and other proceeds a<strong>re</strong> put <strong>to</strong> effective use<br />
for the benefit <strong>of</strong> the members and in support <strong>of</strong> the <strong>AATB</strong> goals. <strong>AATB</strong> needs appropriate <strong>re</strong>serves<br />
for unfo<strong>re</strong>seen events, but needs <strong>to</strong> also effectively manage these funds. When new expenses a<strong>re</strong><br />
proposed, it is important that we add<strong>re</strong>ss clearly whe<strong>re</strong> the funds come from <strong>to</strong> cover those expenses.<br />
As the Chair <strong>of</strong> the <strong>AATB</strong> Finance Committee, I have worked with the Board and the staff <strong>to</strong> improve<br />
our financial <strong>re</strong>porting and budgeting process and <strong>to</strong> make su<strong>re</strong> the organization continues <strong>to</strong> be on a<br />
sound financial foundation. As the T<strong>re</strong>asu<strong>re</strong>r, I will continue this work and help develop policies and<br />
practices that adhe<strong>re</strong> <strong>to</strong> these principles.<br />

Vice P<strong>re</strong>sident <strong>of</strong> Operations, California Cryobank, Inc. (CCB) 2006 -<br />
P<strong>re</strong>sent: As VP Ops <strong>of</strong> CCB, I am <strong>re</strong>sponsible for all the <strong>re</strong>gulated<br />
operations from donor sc<strong>re</strong>ening <strong>to</strong> processing <strong>of</strong> specimens <strong>to</strong> s<strong>to</strong>rage<br />
<strong>to</strong> <strong>re</strong>lease and distribution <strong>of</strong> specimens.<br />
P<strong>re</strong>sident, California Cryobank Stem Cell Services 2001 - 2006: As<br />
P<strong>re</strong>sident <strong>of</strong> the Stem Cell Services division for CCB, I had the full<br />
bot<strong>to</strong>mline <strong>re</strong>sponsibility from <strong>re</strong>venue generation <strong>to</strong> operations.<br />
Chief Financial Officer, California Cryobank 1994 - 2003: As CFO <strong>of</strong><br />
CCB, I was <strong>re</strong>sponsible for all financial and accounting activities, as well<br />
as IT/MIS operations.<br />
