the Nation according to CBS Sports/MaxPreps; 4) #8 in the Region according to the National Soccer Coaches<br />

Association of America and the highest ranked WV team in the poll; 5) according to the National Soccer Coaches<br />

Association of America was the only WV team receiving votes in their national poll; 6) 55 games and counting<br />

without a loss-4th longest streak in the nation; 7) recognized by the Army National Guard and<br />

MaxPreps.com as one of ten high schools across the nation as an honoree for the lst<br />

Annual Boys MaxPreps Boys Soccer Tour of Champions.<br />

- to the 2011-12 HS boys’ soccer team for receiving the Team Academic Award from the National Soccer Coaches<br />

Association of America, the first time the CCHS team has received this recognition. To qualify for the award, the<br />

high school team must have a minimum grade point average of 3.25 for the entire academic year. The team’s GPA<br />

was an astounding 3.94!<br />

FAMILY TRIPS, APPOINTMENTS, ETC. -- Please avoid taking students out of school for vacations, family<br />

trips, appointments, etc. If students miss school for any reason (including illness), it is their responsibility to find<br />

out what they missed. The policies for making up work are included in the Parent-Student Handbook. If your child<br />

is ill or will miss school for any reason, please notify the school office by 8:30 a.m. In addition, at the end of the<br />

semester students will have to stay after school to make up any time missed during excessive absences/tardies.<br />

SCHOOL CLOSINGS/DELAYS DUE TO SNOW/ICE – –Although some of us may be holding out for a<br />

mild winter, all of us must be prepared to deal with whatever comes. Here’s a brief reminder of the CCHS weather<br />

policy. Remember that school closings and delays are also announced on the CCHS website and tweeted through<br />

cchsnews.<br />

1) CCHS/SHGS will NOT follow ANY of the Kanawha County <strong>School</strong>s’ weather-related procedures.<br />

2) Families will need to connect to the CCHS website or listen to the radio/television for changes to<br />

CCHS/SHGS schedules. The following stations will be notified by 6:15 a.m. if there are changes to be made: WV<br />

Public Radio, WCHS, WCHS-TV, WSAZ-TV, V100, 96.1, Super 102, WBES, WKAZ, and WQBE.<br />

3) If no announcements are made for CCHS/SHGS, classes will be held on the regular schedule.<br />

4) If a two-hour delay is announced, classes will start promptly at 10 a.m. The building will not open<br />

until 9:30 to give staff time to get to school. Please do not drop off your children before 9:30!<br />

5) As always, if you cannot get your child to school for health or safety reasons, notify the school.<br />

CALENDAR FOR 2012-13 –Exams must be taken on scheduled exam days. At the end of each semester,<br />

students must make up time missed for illness or other non-school related reasons (more than 5 absences per<br />

semester in any class) in order for class credit to be granted.<br />
