The year 2012 was an exciting one for the Hurricane Club. In the organization’s 40th
anniversary, we were able to surpass our goal of 5,500 members, putting us on pace to
eclipse our goal of 6,000 members for 2013. Your generous contribution aids the athletic
department in providing scholarship and operational support for our 17 varsity sports. In
doing so, each donation assists us in our mission of building
champions in the classroom, in competition, and in life. Our
success truly starts with YOU.
The University of Miami boasts a proud, storied tradition,
and every year, we seek to come together as a family in
upholding this legacy and building upon it. The students,
alumni, and fans of the University and its athletic teams
serve as the lifeblood of our program. It is through their
emotional and financial support that we find ourselves able
to forge ahead in our pursuit of excellence. Your dedication,
loyalty, and generosity provide us with the necessary
resources to continue to strengthen our commitment to
student-athletes, both academically and athletically. As the University and athletic
department experience change, the one constant that remains in separating ourselves

With the Schwartz Center for Athletic Excellence slated for completion this summer,
our athletic teams positioned to reach new heights, and exciting initiatives planned,

It Starts with You
Building a competitive athletics program starts with YOU. As
ambassadors for Hurricane Athletics, you help spread the
word of how well our student-athletes perform in the classroom
and in competition. But in order to continuously grow our
membership base and provide the resources needed to sustain
a powerhouse athletics program, we need your help in attracting
new Hurricane Club members. If 20 percent of our active 5,500
members referred just one new member every year, we would
double our membership base within a five-year period. As such,
we have launched a new incentives-laden It Starts with YOU
campaign that works like this:
Refer One New Member
Both you and the new member will receive a limited-edition
Hurricane Club—Building Champions hat.
After you have joined or renewed your membership on the
enclosed renewal statement or pledge card, please give us the
name and contact information of one potential Hurricane Club
member who can be signed up at any level. Once they sign up,
both you and the new member will receive a limited-edition
Hurricane Club—Building Champions hat, available only to
new members and current members who refer us a member.
Become a Canes Rep
Canes Reps get special game-day recognition
and access to exclusive events.
This group of volunteers will be the rallying force in our
It Starts with YOU campaign. By signing up at least ten
new members each year, Canes Reps will earn special
game-day hospitality recognition, as well as access to
exclusive events. If you are interested in becoming a Canes
Rep, please call the Hurricane Club at 305-284-6699 and
sign up today. Upon registration as a Canes Rep, you will
receive a package with membership materials and pledge
cards to help us build champions.
