Twenty-nine pharmacists, pre-registration trainees and technicians were successful in receiving grants to the value
of $110,775 to assist them undertake a range of research and professional development activities. There were
eight research awards and 21 professional development grants awarded (details below).
To further increase the access by members to grant reports a new SHPA Research & Development Grant Reports
section was added to the Grants section of SHPA website. Members may now access reports such as those received
from members who have sat for the Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties and Geriatric Pharmacy examinations
from the website. To assist members reporting on a conference or a study tour the Grants website now contains
guidelines for writing reports. Promotion of the Grants Program continued through the regular segment in the
JPPR, the SHPA Bulletin and the Grants section on the SHPA website. The website was further enhanced this year
with the addition of the conditions of the SHPA Grants Program.

Publications
Facilitating professional development through quality publications
The Publications Division comprising: Christine Maclean (Chair), Danielle Stowasser, John Jackson,
Jenny Johnstone, Graeme Vernon, Fiona Landgren, Bill Thomson, Christine Kemp, Rosie McKew and
Nick Jones have continued their oversight role.
The major activity underway is preparation of the 3rd Edition of the Australian Injectable Drugs
Handbook which has commenced under the leadership of Nicki Burridge, with early support from
Karen McNally and many other SHPA members have offered to join in as the project progresses.
Clinical Pharmacy: A Practical Approach 2nd Edition (Editors: Jeffery Hughes, Richard Donnelly
and Greta James-Chatgilaou) provides practical, easy-to-follow guidelines on all clinical
pharmacy aspects of commonly encountered diseases and disorders. Revered as a unique and
invaluable reference source by all pharmacy professionals and academics the 2nd edition has
been completely revised and updated and is selling well.
