Keystone Symposia serves as a catalyst for the advancement
of biomedical sciences by convening open, international,
peer-reviewed conferences that connect the world’s leading
life scientists within and across disciplines. In addition to catalyzing
valuable collaborations that accelerate life science discovery, our
organization plays a key role in mentoring and positioning the next
generation of investigators. Approximately 40% of Keystone Symposia
meeting participants are postdoctoral fellows and graduate students.
To encourage the scientific “cross-talk” so vital to biomedical advances,
we strive for a healthy mix of participation from academia, industry and
government investigators both in the meeting planning process and on
conference programs. Industry participants in the life science community
have always been invaluable to the work of Keystone Symposia.

There are a number of areas to which you can direct your support:
conference program expenses, scholarships and travel awards. Program
support may be directed to individual meetings or to the discretionary
Directors’ Fund. Gifts to the Directors’ Fund allow Keystone Symposia
the flexibility to fund all conferences in a given meeting season while
providing maximum recognition for particular meetings of your choosing.

ABOUT KEYSTONE SYMPOSIA AND THE CONFERENCES
> Keystone Symposia has been conducting scientific conferences since 1972 when founded as
UCLA Symposia in Los Angeles, California. We relocated to Colorado in 1990 and became an
independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in 1996.
> Conference topics and organizers are selected by a Scientific Advisory Board of distinguished,
international research scientists from academia, government and industry.
> We strive for diversity in all aspects of participation and encourage the selection of organizers
and speakers who are female or from underrepresented backgrounds. Our Diversity in Life
Science initiatives encompass Scholarships, Early-Career Travel Awards and a Fellows Program.
> Keystone Symposia’s website at www.keystonesymposia.org receives 800,000+ visits per year.
> We offer open registration for all our conferences.
> To keep our conferences affordable for all participants, we seek external support for speaker
expenses and student scholarships, as well as for travel awards for investigators from
underrepresented backgrounds and for investigators/clinicians from developing nations.
> Forty percent of our participants are typically graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.
> Keystone Symposia does not provide honoraria or stipends to organizers or invited speakers,
but we do offer limited travel and lodging subsidies to organizers and invited speakers from
academic and other nonprofit institutions.
> As a nonprofit, 30–35% of our expenses are funded by annual donations from corporations,
foundations, government entities and individuals, with the remaining funded by registration fees.
> Only 3–4% of Keystone Symposia’s expenditures go toward fundraising costs.
