New State Record<br />
Yellow Perch<br />
SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va.<br />
– The new state weight record<br />
for yellow perch now belongs to<br />
Joshua Wayne Estes of Hurricane,<br />
W.Va., according to Frank Jezioro,<br />
Director of the Division of Natural<br />
Resources. Estes caught the 14.5-<br />
inch, 1.93-pound fish at Summersville<br />
Lake in Nicholas County on<br />
December 1, 2012, using a live<br />
chub for bait.<br />
His catch establishes a new West<br />
Virginia record for weight. The<br />
previous weight record for yellow<br />
perch was 1.83 pounds, caught by<br />
Charles Mayle from Tygart Lake in<br />
Taylor County in 1985. The length<br />
record for yellow perch of 15.44<br />
inches still stands and was caught<br />
by Craig Hollandsworth from Summersville<br />
Lake in 2010.<br />
Anglers who believe that they<br />
have caught a state record fish<br />
should check the record listing in<br />
the current West Virginia Division<br />
of Natural Resources Fishing Regulations<br />
brochure. The brochure also<br />
outlines the procedure to follow for<br />
reporting a state record catch. This<br />
information is also available online<br />
at www.wvdnr.gov.<br />
Brandon Lloyd, from Parkersburg,<br />
shot a 10 point in Ritchie Co. This<br />
buck had long times.<br />
