Annual Scholar-Athlete Banquet<br />

Thirty-four of the best and brightest scholar-athletes from the Phoenix area proudly display their commemorative footballs.<br />

Erik "Wid" Widmark (second from right) received the chapter's Distinguished<br />

Arizonan Award. Widmark played wide receiver at Cal Western before an NFL<br />

career. Since 1995, he has been the executive director of the Grand Canyon State<br />

Games, which offers more than 100 sporting events and the nation's largest arts<br />

and essay contest with more than 25,000 participants annually. Also pictured<br />

are chapter executive director Mike Muraco; president emeritus Bill Riddle;<br />

chapter chairwoman Janie Riddle; Widmark; Cinda Widmark.<br />

Shandon Coffman from Williams Field High School received the Shaw Courage<br />

Award. Coffman, dealing with the loss of his mother to cancer prior to the season,<br />

became team captain and will attend Harvard in the fall. Chapter executive director<br />

Lew Shaw presented the award.<br />

Coach Frank Kush, a 1995 College <strong>Football</strong> Hall of Fame inductee from Arizona<br />

State, serves as the chapter's Honorary Chairman of the Board and attends<br />

NFF Gridiron Club of Dallas Chapter Celebrates 5th<br />

Annual Scholar-Athlete Banquet<br />

Fifty scholar-athletes from the Dallas/Fort Worth area claimed honors for their accomplishments on the field, in the classroom and community.<br />

2012 College Hall of Fame inductee John Wooten, an All-American at Colorado<br />

in the 1950s, accepted the chapter's Distinguished Texan Award. Having spent<br />

nearly five decades in the NFL as a player and administrator, Wooten is now the<br />

chairman of the Fritz Pollard Alliance. NFF President & CEO Steve Hatchell<br />

presented the award.<br />

Western Massachusetts Chapter Continues To<br />

Shine, Holding its 51st Annual Event<br />

An outstanding group of scholar-athletes were recognized for their accomplishments during their prep career.<br />

Joining the scholars is NFF Northeast Region Coordinator Howie Vandersea.<br />

Former Chapter President and 2009 Northeast Chapter Leadership Award winner<br />

Alex Rotsko (left) received the Butova Trophy for "Career Distinction" from<br />

American International College athletics director Rich Bedard.<br />

Joshua Kelly of St. Joseph's High School received the Francis X. Keating Award<br />

for "Overcoming Adversity." Kelly has battled diabetes for many years and was a<br />

big contributor to his team. Also pictured is his coach, Gary Bianchi.<br />

Dr. Archie Roberts, former Columbia great and 2011 NFF Distinguished<br />

American Award winner, presents the Roberts Trophy to Benjamin Roberts<br />

from Cathedral High School. <strong>The</strong> trophy, which is named for Roberts father,<br />

is presented to the top scholar-athlete in Western Massachusetts.<br />
