Recommendations for WNV surveillance in the Caribbean
Specific recommendations by country
– Confirmation of WNV circulation (Barbados, DR, Trinidad)
• WNV seropositive horses: investigation of the history and movement
• New surveys on horses and birds: use validated risk factors to target the surveys
– Identify virus circulation (Dominica, Martinique, Haiti, St Lucia): equine survey
– Identify a renewed virus circulation (Guadeloupe): sentinel survey in risk areas
– Implement diagnostic locally (Barbados, DR and Haiti)
General recommendations
– Implement or improve passive surveillance
– Associate avian influenza and West Nile virus surveillance on wild birds
– Share information within the Caribbean
