No minimum paid-up capital
The Companies Amendment Act, 2000 introduced the concept of minimum paid-up
capital. Thus all the companies i.e. existing companies as well as the companies
registered after the commencement of the Companies Amendment Act, 2000 were
obligated to increase their paid-up capital to the required minimum - Rs. 1 lac for private
limited companies & Rs. 5 lacs for public limited companies. The companies registered
under Section 25 of the Act either before or after the commencement of Companies
Amendment Act, 2000, have, however, been exempted from the requirement of minimum
paid-up capital. This is a privilege exclusively for companies registered under section 25
of the Act.
