One of Tony’s goals is to open a third pharmacy combining
specialty pharmacy with compounding. According to Tony,
specialty pharmacy is related to complex diseases like cancer,
hepatitis, HIV/AIDS and MS, where patients’ high-cost
medications can run thousands of dollars.
Another goal is to be a preceptor for more WesternU
students by adding a rotation at the new TC Compounding
Pharmacy. Tony is a preceptor at the TC Medical Pharmacy.
Tony said his long-term goal is to retire before he turns 50
and be able to give back by doing community work.
Cindy said she always knew Tony would have his own
pharmacy, and she has been supportive, even though they
have taken different paths in pharmacy.
“I was very amazed that within a short period of time, he’s
been able to grow it (the Corona pharmacy) so fast,” she
said. ■
Patient Bedside Delivery
In June 2012, the TC Medical Pharmacy started doing
patient bedside delivery, something Tony and Cindy
proposed to Corona Regional Medical Center.
“Before a patient has been discharged, the attending
physician will write a prescription, so rather than have the
patient go out there and fill a prescription, those
prescriptions will be faxed to our pharmacy and we will
fill it before the patient is discharged,” Tony said. “Either
the patient can come pick it up, or we can deliver to their
bedside. Once they have their meds, they are set, and they
can go home without any stress or hassle.”
Cindy said she believes this model will benefit the
hospital, enabling it to raise the patient satisfaction rate.

Preceptor Development
The Office of Experiential Education recently co-hosted three preceptor
development programs. “Sharpening Your Precepting Skills” was presented
in Universal City in collaboration with the San Fernando Valley Society of
Health-Systems Pharmacists in February, in Costa Mesa in collaboration
with the Orange County Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists in May, and
again in San Diego in collaboration with the San Diego Society of Health-
Systems Pharmacists. In all, over 300 pharmacists attended these live
programs, which offered two hours of ACPE approved CE credits. Our
preceptor development program will next focus on incorporating students
into Medication Therapy Management, which will be held on a Saturday in
Pomona this Fall. We look forward to seeing you there!! ■

Rotations Fair
Save the Date — October 3, 2012
On October 3rd, WesternU College of Pharmacy Office of Experiential
Education will hold its 3rd annual Rotations Fair. The purpose of this
event is to provide third year students an opportunity to meet with key
preceptors and managers prior to the selection of their rotations. This will
assist students in selecting the most appropriate clinical rotations for their
career path.
