StarrEtt ScrIbErS
The rigidity, light-weight, and easy handling advantages of the Starrett divider make it the
favorite of log builders everywhere! The features of this divider include steel construction,
forged legs, quadrant, knurled lock nuts and tempered points. This sturdy construction
overcomes the possibility of the legs moving with the grain when scribing. The dual vial
bubble attachment is fully adjustable. It rotates 360 degrees thus facilitating both vertical
and horizontal scribing.
The Starrett divider combined with the rear mount dual vial bubble attachment makes
this unit the most popular log scriber we have ever supplied to students, individual home
builders and contractors. Since the early 1970’s more homes have been built using Starrett
scribers than any other scriber. This unit is practically a must for accurate and tight fitting
joints.
macKIE ScrIbErS
This scriber was designed by intellectual B. Allan Mackie, world renown log builder,
instructor, and lecturer. This scriber has many features which adapt it specifically as a log
building scriber. The main body is constructed of aluminum, the point and axis rod of
stainless steel, and the nuts and bolts of brass. These metals feature durability, sturdiness
and resistance to corrosion.
Other features are capability of using full length pencil and steel point at either straight
or 24 degree angles and dual vial bubbles. These bubbles are visible from top, side and
bottom for an over head, eye-level or low scribe. A cut-out on one side of the rotating
level unit allows it to be functional for left or right handed scribing as well as vertical and
horizontal scribing.
All these features make this a premium quality log scriber with many benefits for the log
builder.
peeLing TOOLs
cuStom draWKnIvES
These heavy duty log builder drawknives are manufactured from spring steel milled to
a 23 degree edge and tempered to a 59 Rockwell hardness. This resists chipping while
still maintaining a sharp edge. A sharpening stone should be used to touch up the edge.
The tapered handles are angled and bonded epoxy to steel. This provides user comfort by
minimizing hand slippage and finger cramping while still providing the user with maximum
blade control.
The handles are positioned for drawknife to be used in the bevel down position. The two
handle spreads are enough to peel most size logs while the different weights enable the
removal of small knots and stubborn bark.
Hand forging with hammers compresses the steel, introducing more carbon into a smaller area. After annealing, the tools are
quenched, then tempered to the proper hardness. This process produces a superior edge that maintains its edge longer.
All slicks, chisels and gouges come with socket fitted handles with steel shock rings on those that are meant to be struck. All
are attractively finished, sharpened and ready to use. Many current owners can attest to their quality.
Our industrial tenon cutters are self-centering and feature twin carbon steel blades which enable them to quickly produce
an appealing and professional looking tenon with a 60 degree shoulder. We carry two different brands each with their own
features and benefits. For maximum efficiency and safety, the drill used should have a maximum RPM of 500. For tenons 2”
and larger, a ¾” drill is recommended. A countersink is also available to flare out the hole drilled for the tenon allowing it to
Features and Benefits:
- Machined from high grade industrial aluminum for strength and durability.
- Twin high carbon steel blades for quick cutting action.
- Blades replaceable and sharpenable.
- Shaft acts as a stop with set screw for consistently same length each time.
- Blades butt against shoulder for easy set.
- Built in level.
- Choice of ½” or ¾” shaft.
The taper countersink (#B) is used to flare out the front of the hole drilled out for the tenon.
This allows the fitting of the tenon and the shoulder thus creating a stronger fit especially
This combination of the drill carriage and manual clamp makes for hassle free alignment
and cutting of tenons. This is especially useful and time saving when cutting numerous
spindles for railings or in furniture manufacturing. The drill carriage holds the drill in places
on a slide rail frame. The drill carriage, drill and tenon cutter as a unit is manually pushed or
slid into the end of the clamped stock, cutting the tenon. The self-centering manual clamp
cannon carvEr & SuPErmInI ProFESSIonaL barS
Manufactured since 1955, Cannon bars have long been renowned as state of the art in the chainsaw industry. One of
the big features of Cannon bars is that the groove is machined as opposed to being ground for mass produced bars. This
results in the groove being more precise right from new. Every Cannon bar is also put through rigorous quality assurance
checks prior to packaging. The steel used in their manufacturing is also harder resulting in at least several times the life
of mass produced bars by customer own testimonials. Although costing somewhat more than mass produced bars, the
benefits and longevity are well worth the price.
Cannon has long made the regular Super felling bar, then the carving bar, and more recently has undertaken to
manufacturing the Super Mini Professional bar which was once manufactured by Windsor before they were bought out.
ImPortant: When ordering bars, we require the following information to get you the right bar.
- Make and model of your chainsaw
- Length of bar required
- Pitch of chain and thickness gauge of driver being used. If 3/8” pitch, whether it is “regular 3/8” pitch (larger) or
“Low Profile” (smaller)
sturdy base plate which fully supports the weight of the saw through its angular range and
provides excellent stability for accurate freehand cuts with a long cutting bar. By using the
top cutting edge of the bar, the chain cutters throw wood chips away from the operator
and cut area. This in combination with a large opening in the base plate and the U-shaped
chain bar clamp located will behind the upper cutting edge of the chain bar provide an
building of his personal home almost entirely by himself on a large acreage in Ontario. He
demonstrates in this book that with the right attitude, a will to learn and a desire to create
something of one’s own, the average person is more than capable of building a log house
that will serve them for many, many years. Supported by hundreds of photographs and
