There are several factors used to calculate energy
savings in a warehouse freezer environment. Because
the typical cold storage environment has a maintained
temperature of -18˚ C or 0˚ F, not only are electricity
savings measured, but freezer and cooler thermal load
savings all factor into the total energy saving calculation.

Hubbell Industrial recently worked with one of the
largest public refrigerated warehouse companies in
North America, to identify a luminaire that could hold
up in its New Jersey freezer service facility.
The KOOLBAY LED freezer luminaire was installed
above each of the freezer aisles, which are
approximately 45’ high and 7’ wide (see below right).
As you can see from the before and after images below,
the LED freezer luminaire design with aluminum reflector
directs more light in the narrow aisles than the existing
HID luminaires.

Because light fixtures naturally
generate heat during operation, HVAC
systems must work harder to remove
additional heat from a building. Due to
the cool LED source and its efficiency,
the KOOLBAY’s BTU load is substantially
lower than a typical HID Highbay
fixture, which is especially important

COOL LIGHT
Light generated by an LED is inherently
