ADSL Test Set
The Easiest Way to Accelerate ADSL Deployment
A World of Good for Your Networks

The CoLT-250. So affordable, every installer should have one!
Does your ADSL service measure up
The CoLT-250 knows for sure! The Consultronics CoLT-250 is a hand held portable
tester that allows installers to confirm that ADSL is being properly delivered to subscribers.
With four different versions in the CoLT-250 family, service providers are
able to satisfy virtually every customer. Here is a list of available CoLT-250’s:
CoLT-250: Alcatel ADSL chipset based for testing
ADSL and ADSL over POTS services.
CoLT-250I: Alcatel ADSL chipset designed to
assist those wishing to install ADSL
over ISDN services.
CoLT-250A: Analog Device's (ADI) ADSL chipset
for ADSL and ADSL over POTS services.
CoLT-250AI: ADI ADSL chipset designed to assist those wishing to install ADSL
over ISDN services.
The CoLT-250; so affordable, every installer should have one!
Easy-to-use. Simple to operate.
The CoLT-250 makes determining ADSL Quality-of-Service a snap. Simply connect
the CoLT-250 to the circuit, turn the unit on, and within seconds you are receiving
results from the ATU-C that include ADSL connection rates and noise margins. The
CoLT-250 is so easy to use, installers can be trained to operate the unit in just a few
minutes.
Confirm accurate service.
The CoLT-250 determines the upstream and downstream
ADSL connection rates at the subscriber’s
premise. Many ADSL service providers are offering
multiple levels of service based on different thresholds
of connection rate. The CoLT-250 confirms that
the service promised is the service delivered.
Works with the DSLAM.
The CoLT-250 has an actual Alcatel or ADI ADSL modem chip set inside (depending
upon which unit is ordered). This means that the CoLT-250 works with existing
Alcatel or ADI compatible DSLAM's, giving upstream/downstream connection information
that is identical to Alcatel / ADI ATU-C’s.
Loop plant records and automated test systems can pre-qualify a loop, but they are
unable to accurately predict the level of ADSL service that can be achieved.
Automated test systems that depend on single-ended testing cannot give a true picture
of loop quality. The CoLT-250 displays the actual connection rates as a subscriber
would see them.
Optimise the local loop.
The CoLT-250 is used to check that the local loop can support ADSL. If the wiring
does not allow ADSL service to the end point of the circuit, the CoLT-250 can be used
to test at various points back through the network. It’s easy to carry a CoLT-250 from
the end point of the circuit to the subscriber’s telephone room to a junction box, etc.
The battery powered CoLT-250 is portable, battery powered and can be used out
doors.
Get a head start on ADSL delivery.
ADSL is fast becoming a generic service. As interoperability between ADSL modems
is achieved, Service Providers will soon be required to deliver ADSL activated loops
without knowing the brand of the subscriber's equipment.
The CoLT-250 confirms the presence and speed of the delivered ADSL service. Since
tests are independent of the subscriber modem, access to the subscriber premise is
not required. This lessens the time spent at each ADSL subscriber's installation. Why
carry around a laptop computer, an xDSL modem, and all the power adapters to run
these items, when the CoLT-250 fits in the palm of your hand and gives all the information
you need right on screen!
Why the CoLT-250
Economical and easy-to-use
Lightweight, handheld design
Runs a test at the push of a button
Easily confirms ADSL service at the Customer Premise
Save multiple results for later analysis
Attaches directly to the copper pair via telco clips
Reduces time and removes the guess work in installing ADSL services
Can connect at various locations on the local loop
Upgradeable via its integral V.24/RS232C interface
Field replaceable batteries
Send results to a PC
Connect to Your PC!
With the included CoLT-View software, you can view test results in numerical and
graphical form right on your PC’s screen (see the illustration below). View negotiated
parameters and Carrier Load (bits/bin) data. Save your test results to disk for
later inspection in the CoLT-VIEW application or in a spreadsheet program such as
MS Excel . Test results can be printed. Imagine having the ability to email the
results of tests to a colleague or equipment supplier.
